That's a bold claim. The kind that is unlikely and can't be proven. The merchandising you speak of probably became popular after the music CD which had nothing to do with their line of merchandise they introduced. SE has been doing things like nation rings and CDs and so on for a long time now, more so in Japan.
EDIT: If your argument ever has a line in it that reads "Go read wikipedia", you are instantly proven wrong. It's like a rule on the internet. Look it up on Wikipedia or something.
Jesus, just shut up. You and LD need to stop posting.
You've since violated the rules put forth by SE regarding accounts, so you wouldn't be operating in any "good conscience" when handling your account. If we may continue this hypothetical situation without conscience, then (given what's in bold above) you ought to retrieve the account from SE and keep it just long enough to sell it again to somebody else. Fuck the other guy, he's a dirty account-buyer.
I love how people act like the ToS has anything to do with the moral implications of selling an account.
It's pretty clear the people doing this could care less about a click-through agreement.
"Oh noes! You broke a RULE!"
Get off SE's dick already.
Well I didn't really say it was hypothetical, but that is the scenario that has been posed to me. I sold the acct and the guy contacted me saying he was hacked. I really don't have much desire to play and haven't really thought about it since I sold it. However, if I log on and a relic has mysteriously appeared or something thereabouts my desire may magically return! I am torn!
Well you are a proud one. Yes people might not care about rules, but that doesn't change the importance of rules. That click-through agreement is something they agreed to and something they ignored at their own fault. Breaking rules and cheating are number one concerns for any game. Games are nothing more than a set of rules. You can add a "oh noes!" to anything, but that only achieves looking like a gigantic cockgobbler.
How about putting some weight behind your words?
lemme clarify a bit. i'm not as angry as i sound, i just dont post on forums often.
my point is: whether or not something is "illegal" has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it is "right" or "wrong" unless you believe it does. preaching to people who don't give a fuck about a rule is pointless.
to reply to your OP since im contributing to fucking up the topic....ethnocentrism, rationalization of their own actions, AND the real differences in behavior between the two types of "RMT" explains 99% of the differentiation i think.
Uh that's not what I've been saying or doing at all lol, are people actually reading what theyre responding to like at all? I'm pretty sure I addressed most of this in a previous post already. I made a topic when I sold my account because admitting one's own wrongdoing kills the potential drama, it left nothing to say other than "and?" and that was exactly what I was going for. I hang around spam, hence my post count floating around 6900 for the past year, and I post there like once every other day or so. The only thing I don't care about doing is absolving myself because frankly it's far less effort going "yeah what I did was fucked up, and?" than it is to try to make it seem like it wasn't. Trust me, I laid myself on the chopping block to those who mattered and plenty of people who didn't, it's not really my fault people are coming up with stuff a month after the fact.Ryko has made his case that he doesn't give a shit what people think. That's all fine and good. He can do whatever he wants to move on. The point being made is that apathy isn't a source of absolution for doing something stupid. "Oh, I don't care." He obviously cares, he still hangs around, and likes to watch his drama threads. More power to him, I always liked his sharp humor.
And yeah ringthree, it's not like I held the same exact opinion about matters more important than XI back when I played the game or anything. I'd say get a grip but really if the best you have is "well you sold your account" then really there's no worthy back and forth between us anyway.
I don't treat this place like I do gameFAQs, where I post a "hey remember me?" topic just to get the same canned responses from people who still have yet to down a byakko. The fact that I stopped playing this game 11 months ago, sold my account like 6 or so weeks ago and people are just NOW bitching about any of it is just highly entertaining.
hfs, thanks to all for giving me a good reason to stay up 15 minutes after playing fallout 3 >.>
thanks to the IAS posters who were the only attempts to amusify this thread.
thanks to the complete morons who try to espouse the ethical high ground without having ever been out in the real world.
there is no good answer to this, and the biggest problem i see is that the people still playing are dealing with an addiction that is real. i was addicted to MMOs for quite a while, and now i can only play them when i actually have time to do so and don't worry about it otherwise.
if you were not emotionally attached to it, and someone offered you 2000 bucks for a statue you had been carving off and on for years, would you take it?
- before i hear "that doesn't affect anyone else retard", let me remind you that players selling accounts is very likely to either go to someone who WANTS to play the game, or someone who HAS played the game... these people are not the problem that you face when your shit sells low or you get coclblocked at an NM.
if you either needed money, or could use it for something that would benefit your life, would you sell an account if you didn't intend to play again?
if the answer to that is no, then you're an idiot. your moral high ground might help you sleep at night, and you're going to need that when you end up sleeping on a street corner because you couldn't pay your rent - you'll be slightly less wet and smelly.
the poster at the end of page 5 is actually either completely wrong, or lucky. adults who have seen what can happen in the real world, and who aren't loaded with cash overflow wouldn't think twice about any of this. they'd laugh.
it's not the player who made this possible, and they'd be idiots not to take advantage of it. i guarantee there are people who have paid rent late and gotten kicked out of their apartments / houses who have a multiple 75 account worth some RL cash, and to them i say good fuckin' luck and thanks for taking my tax money for support when you could've sold a fucking video game account.
real life allows people to be righteous when they can fucking afford it, and the rest of the time they're just sponging.
PERSPECTIVE, GODDAMMIT.
This thread is one giant cluster fuck of pointless arguing. It's one side people that think it's OK to sell their account, and the other is people who don't. You can't just enforce your opinion on someone because you think it's right, and if you try you're a fucking idiot.
Yeah, its not like the threads name wasn't implying that it wanted any ones opinion or anything <_>.
Not saying it wasn't, but 10 pages of this shit? Really?
btw downloading mp3s or movies from the interwebz is "wrong" too but ppl give a fuck about it because it doesnt hurt them or anyone close to them, same thing goes for selling your FFXIchar.
