I'll read the responses after posting so I don't get biased before.

I believe that the RMT that affect our game via
    1)claiming NMs
2)farming non stop in an area where you are farming
    3)AH manipulation
for the purpose of selling for real money, is what pisses people off. It affects how enjoyable the game is.

People who played as a regular player and then sell their character (to someone else who in turn will play as a regular player) for money may get less hate towards the trade. The only really annoying if the person had plans to quit and got a rare item for the sole purpose of increasing the value of the account.

    lolfavouritism?

    Hypocrites will always be hypocrites.
You do realize I outed myself and stepped down as a mod and the subsequent lack of interest in someone just admitting their own wrongdoing is why it got "swept under the carpet", correct? 102 posts and the response was basically "and?". I didn't ask for some sort of cover up, all of you went "meh" because it wasn't someone else blowing my spot, I was more than ready for the topic it could have been. There wasn't a "good job" or a "you evil bastard" response to it, no one even cared.

A month later and finally it becomes something, nice.

Price of coral on Odin has nearly doubled since the last STF report. I'm waiting for the shitstorm of people griping about the cost of RR hairpins and gorgets now soon.

People love RMT farmers when it saves them money on consumables.

People hate RMT farmers when it blocks them from making money.

I used to hate the notion of people selling their accounts. Now it's just so commonplace, there's not much we can do about it. Can gripe and whine about them being sold and preach about how unethical or immoral it is, but in the end, it comes down to what type of person it is that owned the account. I told one of my friends that sold his account he was a fuckwad for doing it, but I didn't end my friendship with him. Why would I? He was my friend before FFXI and will be my friend after FFXI. There are some that would just as soon crucify anyone that sells an account rather than look at it as a simple disagreement of opinion. Some prefer to just constantly bash someone any time they see them. What most don't realize or refuse to admit is...

    Everyone has a price.

It's easy to say you'd never sell your account while you're so actively involved in the game. It's near impossible to see that potential pricetag to some when they place the friendships they've made as the true value of this game. As time goes on and cliques of friends disappear and thoughts of leaving FFXI yourself creep into the forefront, all it takes is someone coming along and saying "I'll give you $10,000 for your account." Some might entertain the notion even for just a few hundred bucks.

It is the anonymous internet however and being judgemental trumps actual reasonable judgement. :D

This is how I look at it. No amount of crying or moaning will ever get rid of RMT. If I gave my friend who lived next door and gave them X amount of IRL dollars in tangible cash for an account they had possession of, or they gave me X amount of IRL dollars for an account I was in possession of that would be an RMT transaction leaving no paper trail or w/e. Even if eBay and every site concerning internet transactions with real world money outlawed and cracked down on RMT completely, it would still be possible to RMT accounts in some shape or form. I have no beef with people selling their accounts. Considering the years of subscription fees they might have paid they may or may not break even the majority of the time. Would I ever RMT my account? Never say never, right? Though I don't see it as a certain possibility. In fact, I think I'd rather drink 2 litres of piss than see some newb get a hold of my account which I've wasted countless hours of my life making uber in the hallowed name of internet peen.

Uh, no, by that logic, drunk drivers SHOULD be arrested because they do pose a substantial threat.

Nah, I think you are a douche for completely different reasons now.

You did hurt my feelings though. *sniffles*

I will tell you this, I am about as far one way on this issue as you are the other way. Conflicts like this happen inevitably, if you don't enjoy the discussion then simply do not engage in it and it goes away.

I'd say something like "It's sad that it took so long for me to realize just how much value the respect of a gaming community really means" but then someone would point out my smash bullshit and it'd be like "ohi hypocrite x2" and frankly I'd rather avoid that whole line of discussion anyway.

    "Is it wrong? Yes"
    "Who cares though?"
    "The people still playing"
"Which I guess doesn't affect me then"

    *shrug*

Hard to make a big deal over it when the best word I can come up with to describe the situation is "Disappointment". Besides, the "It doesn't effect me anyways la la la la la" line of logic is so lame comming from someone usually known for wit and quick comebacks. /shrug

Which is understandable but my point was to not get it mixed up. I at first tried to cover my own shit up then I decided it wasn't worth it and just laid it out. No one made a relevant response to the entire thing aside from wafik jumping the gun and moving the topic once, then back because I mentioned that if sono wanted the topic elsewhere, he could have told me before I posted the thing. No one tried to sweep anything under the rug, there just wasn't much to talk about. A month later people finally want to say the 3 things that should have been said in the first place but weren't because I said it myself?

No, I get it. Definately not making a big deal over it, but you seemed to be curious why people didn't attend your goodbye party in swarms, and the reason is you pissed on your own cake.

Actually that was the original intention, I knew it'd get that sort of reaction if I posted it myself. I'm more wondering why people are coming up a month later asking for some pisscake leftovers.
