    tbh my biggest beef was Ryko shattering my beliefs that I was in tune with the wants and needs of the African-American people by declining my generous offer of a carton of Marlboro Menthols for his account.

    The RMT affected me far less than SE's updates specifically - Thief's Knife, Dragon Talons, Mog Bonanza, Panther Mask +1 (I'm lucky I didn't have these items at the time though, but as a reseller of high end goods, things could have gotten ugly.)

    When SE does it "It's ok. Lift your chin & move on."
    If RMT does it "Dang those RMT are at it again, screwing things up."

    My problem is when SE made changes they were unpredictable while RMT are not -> sort of like the stock market. I just go with the flow.

    My point is depending how far down the chain you want to go, we're all RMT for using the Auction House and would make us all hypocrites if against RMT but where do you draw the line?

    He means that by buying the goods from the RMT farmers you in turn are participating in RMT which is why you're a Communazi and don't deny it.

    This is a MMORPG that only around 500,000 people play. Out of that 500k, it's a safe bet anybody you consider "famous", the JPN have no idea that person exists. So that's a large chunk right out the gate that don't know who Ryko or whoever is.

    Taken a step further, not all NA/etc. people who play FFXI frequent this board often enough to keep track of who is considered "e-famous". If I logged on FFXI right now and asked random people "who is Ryko?" they'd have no idea.

    This isn's just about Ryko, or anybody in particular. This is sort of going along with the topic though, if people would stop putting these random people like Ryko, etc. on a pedestal for stupid reasons, and calling them "famous", then it would be easier to see a situation like RMT, etc. without bias.
    <sarcasm>
    This is a world that 6.7 billion people live in. Out of that 6.7 billion, it's a safe bet anybody anyone considers "famous", some VERY LARGE group of people have no idea that person exists. So that's a large chunk right out of the gate that don't know who anyone considered famous by another person is.
    </sarcasm>

    You can certainly be famous within a community, the fact that people outside of the community don't know who you are has nothing to do with it at all, or else, like I said, you can claim some well known person in the US, or god I don't know anywhere, can't actually be famous because some group of people don't know who they are. To be famous is to be well known, not to have every child across the globe born with the innate knowledge of your existence and glory.

    No shit people in Zimbabwe don't know who Rykoshet is, I'm fairly certain...Actually you know what? This is just too stupid. Ryko's a nobody and nobody cares about him because hexagram23 thinks the Japanese FFXI players don't know who he is. You win.

    i would imagine that if all the anti RMT ppl in this thread were faced with the choice of a piece of paper listing an acount p/w and login or a thick stack of 100 dollar bills on the table in front of them, thier high and holy gamming morals would be tossed out the window

    Only if I can get home fast enough in time to change my password

    EDIT: And a request to Bercus, probably bring up player -> player RMT in the next interview. I don't think we've ever had that asked.

    To some people, a thick stack of 100 dollar bills is just a bunch of paper.

    I quit, I didn't sell out. I work a good job, I enjoy my work, I already save around 25% of my salary just because I don't really care to spend it on anything. Why would I care about a few thousand dollars?

    In fact, not only did I quit and NOT sell my accounts, I still haven't canceled them lol.

    Nope, not all of us are as easily bought off as you are. It's humorous to see that the best rationalization you can come up with is "you'd all do it too, I'm sure of it!", though.

    To add to Aurik, I recently quit as well, and my account is in the exact same condition as the day before I quit, no gil sold, no RMTing for massive profit. It'll stay that way until the servers shut down.

    Each RMT transaction is just fuel on the fire. It increases RMT's foothold on the game, and makes gameplay worse for all involved. It gives the RMT companies more resources, so they can branch out into the next game you're going to play.

    But this is standard human nature. No one cares about anyone else, and doesn't give a thought as to how they might be screwing someone else over.

    And because this attitude prevails, you get a government like the good ole neocon bushies, who help their corporate buddies screw you over on your money and rights. And people wonder why we get the kind of governments we do. People get the kind of governments they deserve. Bush is just like you.

    Before you hotly protest, what are you doing to combat the laziness and ignorance? Because it starts right here, and giving a shit about dumbfucks that have no qualms about screwing other people over. You start to fight it here, showing that it's unacceptable. You fight it everywhere. You get educated. Then maybe things will get better.

    But the second you go "I don't care if I screw other people over" or "I don't care if this person screws people over," you create yet another person who will then screw you over. And in ways a hell of a lot worse than a mere video game.

    Buying someone's account who leveled legitly is not the same as 15 little nips camping an NM with a bot. I don't care how you spin it, its simply not.

    Why do people embrace selling, yet detest buying?

    I think it is mostly because they don't care by the time they sell.

    After four pages there isn't much 'new' I can add to the topic but I'll lay down how I felt.

    I never detested buyers, but I never embraced them either. I didn't intended to sell my character but by the time I quit I really couldn't give a rats ass about everybody else. (I know, beating a dead horse with that line.) Anyway it was like this, press a button and delete a game that I'd never play again. Or press another button and get a few thousand dollars for it. It was rather easy for me to choose. Not doing so would be like throwing away a few thousand dollars. If I hadn't I would beat myself every time I was low on cash. I sold my character for 1.5k. Used that money to move, in which I got a job that paid $5 more an hour. Six months later I got a promotion and made 25k more a year then before.
    Fuck, now that I think about it selling my account was one of the greatest things I did with my life.

    Money is the driving force for most people in this world. And I had to choose weather or not I'd take a few thousand dollars and leave a few people that I'll never talk to again a bit pissed at me for it or just delete my character. I'd pick the money any day.

    So what you're saying is that it's ok for IGE to sell accounts they have leveled, but it's not ok for them to bot. Funny, because last I checked no one seemed to give a damn about people botting at Kings; however, if a RMT starts botting wild rabbits in W-Ron, it suddenly becomes an issue.
