Bandwidth monitoring tool?

Hi, couldn't find anything similar to this in the sticky up top, but does anyone know of a freeware tool I could leave running at startup that collects bandwidth coming/going data on a per program basis ? I'm curious to see how much certain programs have sent/recieved over the course of my playtime, since my internet bill is telling me I've used near my limit of data that I can't remember using.

Dunno if this works for you but this program called Netflow Analyzer might do what you need. It comes as a 30-day evaluation download but after 30 days it goes into Free mode so you can keep using it but it will only monitor a maximum of 2 interfaces.

Looks sleek, very simple and straight forward for the information you need. It has all the information you would need.



If you're unsure of why traffic is being used without you knowing, this is unlikely but is your PC being used as a zombie (sending out spam?). it happened to me once unknowningly. If you want, combine that product above with this (by Microsoft):

This will tell you which programs are tapping into the internet (for example, wait for it to be idle, then load up a forum in firefox, the firefox process will be listed and it will tell you what your machine is doing/requesting).

EDIT: Follow up, I wouldn't bother analysing which program took up the most bandwidth. In a generic FFXI player case, it would be as follows:

Internet Browser (Firefox, OPERAAAAA, lolIE7, appleappleapplenomnom Safari)
FFXI/Other online game
E-mail/P2P client

If your PC is indeed infected with something you're not aware of which is using internet traffic, TcpView will tell you instantly.

To give you some statistics, on my bandwidth I have experienced on a weekday when I play for 3-4 hours I use roughly 10mb (send + recieve) on FFXI alone. But I don't afk in Whitegate/Bazaaring areas. On a weekend where I sometimes do events this shoots up to 20-30mb for the day (roughly 8~ hours)

I also used to use Netstat (TheStig's link), so I can vouch for its awesomeness.

I've used and still use a program called Netlimiter, for the past 4 years (still on version 2003) or so to monitor my outgoing traffic. I don't know how the newest one works or if there's any tidbits that they've added, but Netlimiter suits my monitoring AND limiting needs perfectly fine.

Trying out a cracked version of the newest NetLimiter, seems pretty nifty so far.
