All teams are in the business of making money. All teams understand that winning games will have the greatest effect on your ability to generate interest in your product (ticket sales). Nothing effects ticket sales more than WINNING.

Now, in order to WIN games, you need to attain good players. If those players are not happy, you do whatever you can in your power keep those players happy so that they keep WINNING games for you. In winning games, you gain bandwagon fans who will shell out all of their money which in turn produces a profit.

Bandwagon fans don't make good teams, good teams make bandwagon fans.

I meant to remark earlier that I had been expecting a bland, boring championship. Especially compared to the quality of the post season conference play this year. I never dreamed there'd be an overtime game, let alone two of them. I'm so happy this series is competitive.

Also, have you guys in LA seen those ads the Clippers are running for season ticket sales based upon having the number one draft pick, even though we don't know who it'll be? Is that going to attract bandwagon fans? Sure it is.

Yes we do. Devia, meet Blake Griffin.

And you can't call them bandwagon when the team sucks.

So after reading a bunch of comments about yesterday's game and knowing my opinion on the reffing yesterday is shared by even Magic writers, I have to say that this had to be the biggest choke in history of the NBA finals.

The refs by all intents and purposes were trying to make this series 2-2, the Magic were getting ridiculous calls the entire game. They didn't even have to make shots all they had to do was make slight contact and make their free throws and they STILL lost.

Yeah I'm not sure who choked the worst. Magic's free throws or Stan not having the team foul with 11 seconds left. The Magic have given away 2 games this series. This series could be 3-1 Magic very easily, and you could also argue the Lakers could have swept already.

I still hope to see a Game 7. I just dont want basketball to be over.

Football is only 2 months away, and you could just get REAAAAAL drunk and pretend that regular season Baseball is fun to watch in the intervening months.

You don't understand because you haven't seen the commercials. It isn't me saying we don't know, it's the advertisement saying it. Like with a silhouette where the player would be.

My question was directed more toward the people from So Cal anyway.

And if the Clippers gain fans based upon this new acquisition, whoever it may turn out to be, then those fans are most certainly bandwagoners.

I could understand the excitement if it was someone good like Duncan or LeBron, but Griffin is meh.

    The ad in question

They are seriously overhyping this but Clippers tickets are cheap and what fans they do have are pretty loyal. Whatever brings in the dollars, more power to them.

Whoa out of left-field hate for Kings fans. What'd they ever do to you?

    Edit: Unless you mean Sacramento...

    In regards to bandwagon fans...
I live in the SoCal area and I have been a Laker Fan since I was about 7 yrs old as my father and I would go to my grandmothers house and watch Laker games together. Die Hard fans will stick by their team, and I have watched the team go thru their ups and downs. Around here, you have your mix of Laker supporters, Laker Haters, and those who are on the Fence. The once on the fence are the bandwagon fans and will support the team when they are doing well, but distance themselves from the team when they are doing poorly because they don't want to deal with the laker haters. Then you have others that will only jump on the bandwagon and claim local sports pride. This is what happened with the Magic this year. The seats at Amway were mainly empty at the beginning of the year but then once the Magic got hot, people started showing up more to support the team.

I want the Lakers to win for many reasons...
    1) I am a die hard fan
    2) I would like to see Phil Jackson get his 10th ring and pass Red Auerbach for most Rings by a Coach
    3) Kobe to get a ring without Shaq since he said he couldn't win without him before asking him how his ass tastes.

I heard there's this sport played on ice...

L.A. Kings fans are about as hardcore non-bandwagon as they come.

I heard Kobe has a " Hey Shaq, How my Ass taste" Rap already taped and ready for air play.

I like how you define "bandwagon fans" however it serves your argument best. I defined it as fans willing to stop supporting the team if they are bad or are unwilling to spend any effort. The Knicks players are both of those, and yet you have all your diehards filling your arena, and therefore I said if you had more fans who would take action, then your team owners will be forced to play ball, no pun intended.

Now, the whole reason I brought up the argument that you should want bandwagoners was in response to how you were diss'ing them after my first dig at Knicks fans. Why would you diss a whole portion of extra fanbase in which potential be the reason for team owners to even consider spending more money and get more wins? They build teams based on potential earning, the increase of which comes from your hated bandwagoners. Good players are just a stepping stone in order to get to those fans.
