I am from an hour south of Boston. I cannot stand the red sox fans, dont mind the red sox. I dont align myself with a particular team in football and root for who is/was on my fantasy team. I always loved ray allen on the bucks and sonics and KG on the wolves, when they joined the Celtics, I became a bandwagon fan. They could have joined the Grizzlies for all I care and I would like them. But i digress.
Boston is, by far, the biggest bandwagon town I have ever seen in my life. It has spread across three sports. The town was the lovable loser with mediocre fan base, remnants from the 80s Celtics and good but non-champion red sox teams, until the damn Pats won. The the Sox. Then the Celtics. Now its one big obnoxious bandwagon town.
However, to their sad and depraved credit, it has definitely been easier to be a Laker fan than a Celtic fan. For years the celtics were run like a circus, and despite one late post season run with pierce and antoine the slug walker, the team has been atrocious since bird left. Granted, 12 years elapsed between Magic's last one and Kobe's first, but damn, at least Kobe arrived in 96, and when the Zilla came later on, they just dominated.
Thus, as far as basketball goes, shed a little sympathy for the pathetic boston area up until last year. it was really, really bad. that being said, only a biased boston fan will loathe the lakers. the showtime lakers were, in my opinion, the most entertaining team ever, with the kobe and shaq era a second. as a bandwagon boston fan, i hope for celtics-lakers finals, and while i root for KG and ray-ray, i would have really no problem with kobe getting his 4th. i just love b-ball.
