WoW keeps crashing, is it my HDD?

This application has encountered a critical error:

    ERROR #134 (0x85100086) Fatal Condition
    Program: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe

    Failed to read file CREATURE\RAM\RIDINGRAMSKINBROWN.blp.

    Debug Details:

    [2] err=0 text=SFileReadFile - CREATURE\RAM\RIDINGRAMSKINBROWN.blp - Data\common.MPQ
    [1] err=0 text=ReadSectors/DecompressData failed
    [0] err=0 text=ReadSectors/DecompressData failed
This is beginning to happen about once a day. I run repair and the app starts fine, only to have a DIFFERENT resource in common.MPQ fail in this exact manner.

Is it my hard drive? Is it my WoW installation that's quietly corrupting itself at random for no obvious reason? Virus scanner returns nothing.

    Have you tried reinstalling wow?

I recently had to run repair a few times after the patch, each time during the install of the patch it failed. I guess something to do with defragmenting or a cleandisk in the past killing off some important files.

Reinstall if you havent, at least, before you go spending money.

Well the symptoms are more like:

Monday: file1.ext cannot be decompressed. I run repair.exe and everything's fine for that session.
Tuesday: file2.ext cannot be decompressed. I run repair.exe and everything's fine for that session.

ad infinitum. It's not that I can't start WoW altogether, but more that different files just seem to be going missing for no real reason I can discern.

Reinstalling WoW is the only logical starting point for resolving your issue. Check the software before yanking your machine apart.

If you really want to check your hardware, download and burn www.ultimatebootcd.com which has a bunch of diagnostic tools and so on.
