What was that threat a while back where you get an error with POL saying it was unable to open but then it opened or something and then you got hacked. Anyone know if this sounds familiar? Looking for types of caess like that.

Sounds vaguely like the smart.dll thing, you might want to look through the massive sticky on compromised accounts.
this is the current message im gitting
"Cannot open registry key for install path of POL-compatible software. ID=1000"
"Unable to start POL Viewer. Please ensure that you are logged into your computer under an account with administrator rights."
I've never gotten this message in like 500million years
edit: just keep pressing OK and then POL starts. searched smart.dll got nothin
i got this after installing xp service pack 3. then i upgraded to vista and it went away
Ok well i'm definitely convinced i got some kind of virus that wants my POL passwords. Somehow my log password encryption file was deleted so i can't just log in anymore without typing my PW because it's not there anymore. I did a full computer scan and got no results. HALP
also on NONE of my accounts is there a saved pw anymore
Yeah i've been getting that for awhile now (couple of months), off and on, doesn't happen all the time just happens periodically when I turn my computer on first thing in the morning/afternoon/evening then load up 11.
Been hacked once before was not the error message i was getting before.
So why were all of my passwords that were saved to POL coicendently deleted? Kind of obvious if i type in my PW to log in it's a trap for being keylogged unless it's just a strange coincidence but i've encountered one of those already tonight
POL passwords are tied to your hardware ID, if you do a change that'll change hardware ID it'll stop you from loading your POL passwords on that computer
I get that message, but only if I try to run FF *right* when I turn on my computer. Confused the hell out of me the first time I saw it, but anytime I get it, I hit OK or w/e then rerun FF and it's fine. Like someone said previously, it seem like it has some thing to do with Service Pack 3. And of course running FF *right* when Window XP boots up. If you're getting it outside of those conditions, then ignore what I said, and you may want to look further into it.
Posted this about 2 months back http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62059
Is this what you're seeing?

It's the same for me, as what zagex said, happens when I try to start POL too early after a boot up. My laptop that does this, also has SP3 installed. Altwight, if you recently upgraded, installed SP3... that'd most likely confirm this issue.
Oh... and since having this problem in August, I haven't been hacked yet. I wouldn't say you're completely safe, but some peace of mind.
/em knocks on wood.
If you have run a registry cleaner that could have cleared all of your PWs I know i did that and thought i was hacked it sucked till i figured it out.
I too get this message if I try to open POL right as my PC starts.
I got a similar message back when my PC did have a keylogger on it, and I did get hacked (Twice, so no second rollback). Rather than verbatim of what was listed above, I got "User interface not supported" whenever I made the transition from POL viewer to windowed FFXI. It happened both with Aikar's windower, and with SE windower. The game simply shut down, and it would take multiple tries to get from the Viewer to the actual Character Selection screen. After finally removing the trojan, I've yet to see that error message again, so I believe the two are related.
SP3..no issues.
So there's probably something conflicting with POL...
@Reg Cleaner(s):
Only the shitty ones seem to remove the password..I run CCleaner's and it doesn't remove my passwords at all.
Yes, "User interface not supported" is indeed a verified keylogger. I've had both messages, and I've only been hacked (so far) with only the interface message.
Whew. Yay for this thread. I got those two errors for the first time ever (starting FFXI right as soon as I booted up), and was worried but I remembered this thread so came to reread it. Second attempt started just fine.
Mine will sometimes give me errors when I'm running a virus scan, so I'll just pause the scan, open FFXI, and resume the scan since that seems to be the issue for me more often than not.
I've been getting the same shit since I upgraded to SP3. Usually only happens if I try loading XI up right when I get my computer booted up.
I got this error as well, but happens, too, when I open pol "too early." Running Avast every day/time as well as Malwarebytes to see whats going on. Anyone know why Malwarebytes info comes out in another language on the bottom of the window?
