Atramedes' laser can eat a dick, really. Half the time it spawns 10 yards behind me in motion, half the time it spawns right on me, ticking me up to 50% sound before a priest can B&S or lifegrip me out of it.

No shit.
Terribly programmed mechanic. At least with Anub'arak spikes (which was essentially the same gimmick) you knew exactly where the spikes were going to start.
I'm really wondering how you guys are having so many issues with it. Do you guys not have a priest with body and soul? Or have movement cooldowns or anything? If you're moving and you have something of that nature you'll never get hit by it.
It's when the laser starts that the problem is. As the designated gong hitter for the 2nd air phase, I often take 1-2 ticks of laser damage instantly when he targets me after the gong, even though I'm moving. Before I can even press sprint. Same goes for the person targeted at random at the beginning of the phase, except they don't have the luxury of knowing for sure they are going to be targeted. To offset, I just make sure I have lifeblooms ticking on myself, they pop while I'm kiting and I'm good enough that a few ticks of sound from the beam won't get me killed.
We have a priest tacking them with a shield + B&S. But sometimes, they die anyway because they need to successfully kite for at least 4 seconds or else the next beam target won't be able to kite for the full duration of the phase. When you start with the beam right up your ass, you tend to die fairly quickly.
I asked this question before, is there some sort of trick to not getting the beam right up your ass to start but nobody had a solid answer.
We've never had problems with the beam but then again we've only done it normal mode so no clue.
We use a rogue for it precisely because Assassination rogues can tank the laser for ~25 seconds without gaining sound, meaning you can gong almost instantly. Even then, even with the rogue perfectly timing a drive-by on the gong and not changing direction, Atramedes can blast them almost directly when he changes his fixate target. The rogue still needs B&S + a lifegrip to not die half the time because the laser will still land directly on him.
How our phase transition works:
1. Atramedes lifts up for flying phase.
2. Raid spreads outward and everybody moves constantly.
3. Lasers target someone.
4. Designated person (usually Seb) waits until person is lifegripped and has maximum distance/time traveled.
5. Person yells out for a click with the laser not too close to him, gong clicks.
6. Seb kites the remaining time the laser is up, usually doesn't last long.
How ours go:
1. Atramedes lifts up for flying phase.
2. Raid spreads outward and everybody moves constantly.
3. Lasers target someone.
4. That person, about 30% of the time, pretty much instantly takes 1-2 ticks of damage from the laser
5. About 10% of the time that person doesn't get away from the laser and dies before 4 seconds are up
6. Designated gong hitter hits the gong
7. About 30% of the time, the beam retargets the kiter and pretty much instantly takes 1-2 ticks of damage. With sprint, designated person always gets away.
Our priests don't use life grip. They haven't really grasped how to use it properly yet. That said, we replaced a bad priest with a good priest just this week so maybe things will get better.
LG is so damn amazing, having priests who use it well helps a lot in like every fight with important movement and kiting :\
Haven't played this game long, about 3-4 months now. But I've just started raiding a couple weeks ago, and just beat Nef and heroic Halfus tonight. Sporting a T11 chest piece now for my troubles.
Yeah I finally got my T11 helm this week. Huge chunk of extra spirit, at the small cost of replacing mastery with crit as the 2ndary stat on legs, which reforging will mitigate nicely.
We took 3 brand new people to nef and managed to kill it still, even though 2 of 3 were quite undergeared, so I'm pretty happy. Our new priest knows how to covert her mana to big fat heals so I get to feed her innervates now!
After our second Heroic Atramedes kill this has happened every week:
1. Kill longest trash ever
2. pull Atramedes, realize we are on normal, wipe.
3. No one wants to kill the trash again so we kill stuff in BoT or go play in-house L4D2 Vs. mode
4. Try to kill Heroic Atramedes again next week.
GRATS FRIEND
long time etc etc.
RE: Atremedes
Laser beam of Satanic buggy death with a full Aussie/New Zealander raid on various tunnelling services that hop in and out of activity. I'm lucky that it has only targetted me twice, once it killed me immediately (I probably herped, possibly derped, started on me, but still I ran and could not get rid of it despite my dash). The other time it started near me, headed towards me and I could outrun it just fine .
The further you are from atramedes, the slower he turns to breath. Dont be right up his ass, move out a little bit and he's infinitely slower
This is in the air phase.
holy shit wafik lol <3
and yeah, we're discussing the air phase laser. The ground targeting one is trivial. It's just weird, maybe it depends on server and in game lag or something? We haven't had any issues :\
I have definitely herpderped and stood still while it got cast on me, I took a tick and probably would have died but I got LG'd away cause one of our priests noticed it.
It could very well be latency but it would have to be evident elsewhere during the encounter, and we don't let Searing Flames tick more than twice anymore. This is probably a 10-man vs 25-man issue. Having 2 priests, one with B&S isn't uncommon in a 25 man raid, but it's an impossibility in a lot of 10-man comps due to the healing requirements for the rest of the raid bosses. Only 1 LG available + the possibility he'll get targetted during air raids = one-shotting Atramedes is a matter of luck most lockouts.
actually, there was a hotfix on the searing flames. it does more damage, but the time between ticks has been increased.
hi fren, good to see you!
Re: Atramedes
I wouldn't say it's a huge deal for us at this point, but it's possible to just have bad luck on the air beam and wipe because of it. Would be nice if Blizzard would fix its shit though, so that once you execute properly you can virtually guarantee a kill.
Isnt the beam speed determined by your current sound too? If your team suck in phase 1, they will probably get speedy beam of doom in second phase before the reset.
