I made a good bit of gold just buying mats and crafting crap at the start of the expansion (LW/JC). It's damn near impossible to do that now though. The vast majority of items sell for less than they cost to make (Stormrage bounces between full/high pop), so everything is flooded. You can't even buy up all the cheap shit to relist for higher, because it's all back instantly, making it damn near impossible to raise the price.

Edit: And yeah, not spending the gold you have except for on essentials goes a long way over time.

I want to also add, that unless you have the dedication and resources, it's generally not worth trying to farm X material to craft X item because everyone else is doing it. I for sure can't be bothered to keep up with some of the more dedicated people on the realm, so that's why I choose to farm/sell old mats (like cloths as Mortilox said) and/or just farm stuff that doesn't require player money, but NPC money.

And unless your whole raid group is serious about it, I won't spend gold to kit out myself too with crafted/raid/BoE epics. Even on my heroic dungeon gear most of the gems are the cheaper variants except for the str ones. And leg enchants are currently fucked in the moment price wise for the STR ones, so I opt to save 1980 gold and buy the 20 gold ones next "tier" down (ok so I lose 100~ str) but hell no am I spending that much on a heroic blue lol

And if you're not raiding and/or just doing LFR, you probably won't even need it.

Well I'm saying that I play with a bunch of people who DO bot, it's impossible to keep up and they'll always just undercut me.


During wrath the inflation really didn't hit yet, at least on my server, and my server wasn't dead at the time. Darkmoon trinkets were 5k max and now those trinkets are running 60/70k on my server.


And you didn't answer the question about botting and I suck big ones, obviously

I buy my ore from the obvious gold selling bots that post 250 stacks for 40g a stack at once.

The only thing I really spend gold on anymore is flight points on alts and mounts when I reach exalted with a faction.

I'm still super broke though, because I don't even really try at all to make gold. I usually make a little by farming up mats, making bags, and selling, but I only really do that if I'm farming easy content - Frostweave and Netherweave bags both still sell really well. But for the most part, I make what I make from dailies/random quests and just don't really buy anything.

Got Glorious! done, got my tier legs from Sha of Anger for the second week in a row on a lucky charm roll (last week ele, this week enhance - it also makes me 4/6 for loot on luck charm rolls), and finally hit Revered with Shado Pan so I can make weapon enchants.

Found a really awesome guild, whom I click well with! :D First guild I think I've meshed this well with, both raid wise and socially, since... Cata release, I think. Sadly postponed raiding this week due to Sandy, but at least everyone was okay! They have me raiding enhance main, with ele on some fights, so I'm keeping both specs geared now (playing enhance is growing on me, and I no longer suck completely at melee). Now that I've made myself broke gearing it, I can start saving for my yak.

I'm just gonna ask a real honest question.

To all the people with 100k/200k+ gold all the time, is it you just being smart with your money and playing the auction house or can we just be real and admit that most people farmbot these days?

I've had at max 25k gold (early wrath) and that was with me on a deadserver, playing the AH/retards on it, and saving for about 2 months.

A little late chiming in here, but I've made a significant portion of my money in the past two expansions off of taking advantage of high demand in the first few weeks of the expansion cycle. In both cases the key has been having multiple profession alts to take advantage of whatever part of the market was being overlooked.

In Cata, it was herbing/alchemy/JC (tons from JC, often 100-200g profit per cut and I could move 10-20 a day as long as I relisted multiple times a day).

In MoP, early on (maybe about a week after launch) I decided to pick up mining because demand was still high and ore node respawns were insane. It was boring but the prices made it worth it. Funneled a lot of the ore to JC prospecting and alchemy transmutes. JC cuts of rare gems have been completely worthless on my server, but for a week or two Serpent's Eyes were dirt cheap, so I bought them up and made the ilvl 450 necks/rings before people caught on. Was making anywhere from 1k to 3k profit for each sale, and managed to get about a week of doing that before the competition made it not worth the effort. I also don't have a profession that needs motes of harmony on my main, so I've been converting them all to golden lotus. Even now I'm still getting 500g per Spirit of Harmony (more if I make flasks using them and proc extras). I'm not making anywhere what I was making a month ago, but I'm still growing a little just from normal playing and buying ore and converting to Trillium / Living Steel. Also have tailoring on an alt that has been making Imperial Silk that I'll use eventually for the 28 slot bags.

This is all with having only one 90 and three other 85s (two of which I brought from 80 to 85 after they nerfed the exp needed to level in Cataclysm). So having multiple profession alts definitely makes it much, much easier to take advantage of whatever segment of the market is most profitable after a patch. At this point most of the easy money has been made, but if you intend on playing into the next expansion, leveling alts up to 90 over time and stacking them with the most profitable professions will be your best bet for being able to cash in on the next boom.

I know i am like 2 years late but glad finally i got my last 2 achiev. for Glory of the Icecrown Rider 25 and title for LK H 25, wiped on that fight so many times even at 30% buff at 80

Got hunter to 90, tamed all of the new rare mop pet "challenges" in two hours. Except for the basilisk and the water strider in dread wastes, because they look aweful imo.

Decided to wake up at 4am for some early morning rare camping and it turned out wonderfully. I killed scritch twice and got hozen peace pipe on both kills, 2 pets from the rares in dread wastes, 2 epic pants from the rares in krasarang, 40 feasts.

All of which would net me 40k+ if I sold it, but I'm going to keep one pipe for august celestials exalted 1 day earlier
