I guess there's a lot of unused elementium on your server then. I can't find it outside of guild bank toons these days.

Hey, I did it.
Ignoring the awesomeness of prismatic gems, I justified the cost by accepting that if I rolled all the stats from Monarch Crab into the exact same trinket, made it purple and stuck it on the AH, it'd cost more than the 2000g I paid.
If you have enough gold, leveling any profession is easy really. Only gathering skills really suck (mining especially) because there's no shortcut you can take.
Mining has a shortcut, smelting! I spent about 500g to go from 1-280 without so much as tapping a mining node.
78 mage now, and wiped a small group in Gruul's Lair because I had no idea what I was doing.
I leveled JC on a second character after the WotLK DK prof leveling spree died down. After selling everything I made or disenchanted, I think I was out around 1500g only. I made that back in a week and a half selling Dragon's Eyes.
Now I have 2 JCs, one of which has most of the good designs, so I get 2x Eyes per day (~90-120g each) which adds up to quite a bit of easy money after awhile even factoring in that I use many of them for gemming.
My druid right now is Herb+Skinning till 80, debating picking up alch/inscrip/JC to go with herb at 80.
My old horde pally that i sold was JC, was great, seems more useful now though. I wish my rogue was a JC for arenas, I doubt I'll arena on druid but if I do, I might want to be JC for the sheer amazingness of it. JC obviously most expensive route, Inscrip I don't like but I wouldn't mind making nobles... and alch, well, its easy whatever lol.
I really don't get how JC is 'obviously the most expensive.' PLing anything is expensive, but if you aren't retarded about how you go about things JC isn't that bad at all. From leveling both, I'd say Blacksmithing is far worse. Engineering too (and I leveled this three times as well as JC twice).
JC gets off so fucking easy in TBC levels because those gems are like free, same with WotLK. There's likely a good amount in your guild bank unless someone else recently leveled the profession. I think you can actually profit off many of those levels. The only sticking point is late vanilla levels with Star Rubies and Huge Emeralds, but that's not bad at all really. You can prospect a lot of those gems much cheaper than buying them off the AH. Plus any gems you cut for skill ups are likely at cost or even at a profit. You can also skill off of recipes that JC/Enchanters regularly make out of Eternal Earth/Shadow and garbage gems for profit.
One tip I can offer is don't go off some random internet PL guide, because they're terrible. Just find out what things DE into and what gems you can get by prospecting and JC is easy to level.
When I leveled Jenkem to 70, I decided I wanted to get Blacksmithing up for dual Dragonstrikes.
Worst. Fucking. Decision. Ever.
Well, I suppose it wasn't. I got amazing use out of them but the actual act of leveling it was akin to shoving hot pokers into my eyes. And that's ignoring the insane expense. I swore to myself I'd never level it again and am glad I stuck to that pledge when JC/BS was the min/max combo for tanks (especially now it isn't).
Engineering was pretty cheap for me and I AH'd the entirety of it, I also made it all back shortly after witn nessingwary's.
Omg, so jealous of your green drake! (0/5 and counting!)
After actively camping the spawn for the last book I needed, I ding'd this at about 5 am this morning:

Two other people who have been camping alongside me ding'd on that one as well. A pic of us dancing with our new friends:

Aside, I think that tower will totally be my new AFK spot. :3
But if you do that... and not tap alot nodes, you just make JC more expensive, everything below 350 is near non existent. The gems required like azroth diamond, green emerald and such on my server are about 30-40g each.
In total.. and over a course of about 3-4 days.. lvling mining then JC.. i only made money... and now even more money with 2 450 JC'ers.
Eng cost me 2.5k to get to lv.405 and then nitro boosts were nerfedI'm gonna lv jc soon
If it's for arena you might want both professions.
Twilight Vanquisher Eanae! :D
ding 80!
which rep is good to grind for hunter?
