Ive always used DeathKnight.Info Runes - Addons - Curse which works exactly like I want it to. Can free-move and size it however you want

Yeah i pretty much gave up looking... They were all either broken, ugly or.... well mainly those two.

I had read that WoWs coding doesn't really allow for a good Range addon because it can only display in 'chunks'. I mean to say that it can tell you if you are 0-5, 5-10, 10-30, etc. but not exact/constant range.

So yes, if you happen to ever find one that works like you want it to, share. I will do the same but i won't be holding my breath.

The game has to be able to tell single yards, because there are talents in a number of class trees that add 1-3 yards to a given ability's distance. Whether or not it's a part of blizzard's protected API I don't know. It seems like a potential slippery slope issue because if you can call API to get exact distance, you could route that call through a script to automate a bunch of functions.

I'm unsure what you'd use an Addon that tells you exact yards from target for, when problems like 'am I in range to cast a spell/use an item' and 'am I too close to other raid members' are answered by several available Addons and default Blizz UI components already.

The only likely unanswered question is 'am I out of range of my attacker's spells/abilities?' which while handy probably would trivialize an important part of PvP.

I use RangeDisplay for that. Its a small little window, which I moved to the top right part of the screen. Tells you your approximate range from the mob 25-30 / 30-35 / etc. If you're out of range the font color will be red, yellow if you're close to out of range and green for good to go. <3 it for Hunter. Not sure what you can use to tell if your attacker is out of range for their attacks. Best thing to do is learn their ranges and use that to your advantage. ;/

Favorite addon atm: Super Duper Macro : WoWInterface Downloads : Miscellaneous Hurray for 1023 character macros.

    To the top, I say!

I was wondering how long it was going to take someone to integrate the 3.3 quest history API for Loremaster purposes, and someone finally did it.

No more scrounging around and running circles to find quests you haven't done, just go right down the list :D

No kidding, exact same problem here. I was combing through every Kalimdor zone I could find trying to find quests and, just to put the cherry on it, several of them didn't count for no particular reason, e.g., the Dig Rat Stew quest isn't a Kalimdor quest, it's ONLY a Cooking quest.

I had been working on it slowly whenever I had extra time (after doing dailies and such) but was being very methodical about it, checking each questgiver provided by wowhead and such. I'm at 573 or something now and I knew it was only going to get worse, especially with some of the obscure chains (Linken, to name one) that have you going all over the damn map. I was doing it partly for my own sanity's sake later so I wouldn't have to run circles, but also knowing someone was bound to do this, so now I should have a much easier time knocking it all down 8)

It was worse than that for me, Nor. I've done a lot of those chains multiple times on different toons. Turns out I never did any of the Un'Goro quests on my main (my Priest) even though I've done them on my Rogue and Warrior. It can really be a problem when you're thinking, "Damn, I know I've done this quest before," and you realize that you did it on a different toon.

Im actually JUST starting WOW.. played before for a little bit but never went any farther then Quest Helper and Cartographer for Addons.

What you guys suggest for a wow newb whose just starting? so ill be questing mostly all the time. (besides the 2 i mentioned already) so i dont need to be decked out for all these addons as everyone in this thread has right now lol. What Addons improve the looks of the game or there isnt any?

I'm sure there is better, but I use onebag3 to fuse all my bag together in one big bag (I can't stand looking at every bag individually)

Again, I'm sure someone will argue there is better, but ctmod allowed me to easily move and rescale every bar, and remove certain useless thing like the big dragon on the side of your action bar. This way, I can have 4-5 bar tiny bar at the bottom of my screen for every skills.

decursive is pretty much needed on every job that can heal debuff. It's particularly useful in team, but still useful solo

Give us your class. UI is highly class dependent.

    Some basic add-ons I use :
Bartender : move your action bars all over the screen.
Tiptac : Move your tool-tip where ever you want. Its nice when you start modding your UI and something overlap the default tooltip.
Buttonfacade : Change the style of your icons. (Need bartender)
Blizzfacade(I think) : Change the style of your buff icons. (Its nice when everything match)
Grid : Use it to show your party/raid.
Clique : If you are a healer class, use click to use, lets say, holy light when you right click a case on grid.
ag_UnitFrames : Look nice and easy to set up. I use it to show Me, my target, my target's target and my focus. Rest is grid (Party, raid)
    Recount : Show your dps/hps
    Omen : Thread meter.

I use many many more, you will find what suits you best somewhere.

Download the Curse Client to keep track of your add-ons.

    Good luck!

    Which part confuse you?

Bag = your inventory when you press B
Bar = Every bar where you can drop and drag skills/macro icon
Action bar = The bar that react when you press 1,2,3,4,5,6 (its the default one at the bottom of the screen)
Buff/debuff = The big buff/debuff icon that appears at the top right of your screen
Party/Raid UI: It's the UI that show everyone health bar in your party/raid
tool-tip: The information box that appears at the bottom left of your screen when your mouse over anything
Threat meter = a meter that indicate your threat on the current target (no idea how it was on the default UI)

But thanks for making the time and describing everything.

You will see, add-ons will add up with time. One day you will think "Hey I need something that does this". Just go on internet and you will find something.

Once you hit 80 you will want raiding add-ons and remove some useless add-ons you added while leveling.

And at some point you will want to set your UI to be perfect for your play style, class and what you do in game (PVE/PVP).

It takes time to build a nice UI.

For a starting Warlock I'd recommend:

    - Autobar (makes a bar that automatically shows quest items, food, water, hearthstone, mounts, pets, just about anything. Can keep your action bar clear for actual spells and actions rather than cluttering it with other stuff)

    - Some kind of DoT tracker: like Quartz (which also is a cast bar mod) or ForteXorcist. You won't really need it from level 1, but as you grow in levels it'll help a lot, so might as well install it now.

    - Some sort of bag mod: I use ArkInventory, since I can customize it however I need it to be.

Starting out, I wouldn't recommend much more than that, honestly. I played a Priest up to like, 60-something with nothing but the standard UI, so you really don't *need* anything else. Those 3 though, will help make your experience a bit easier, imo.

I'd suggest a) just starting out with the default client and seeing what comes to mind as you play as far as your needs. Many of the mods I use now were borne out of a sense of "I need something to do X" and then it's just a matter of finding something that suits the role.

Secondly once you're used to the game itself you'll be more likely to appreciate specific mods even if you didn't think you needed them, and will then be able to just browse curse/wowinterface and something will jump out at you as useful.

None of the above suggestions are bad of course, I just don't like to attempt to shape someone's way of thinking into a means that may not work for them.

The only thing I do suggest you do is break the habit of moving with your keyboard asap. Train yourself now at an early level to rely completely on your mouse for movement, freeing your keyboard for command inputs.
