I do, but they don't have the desire to learn anything more about it. I had a conversation about this today where I argued that people would care if the information that exists (also the same information that I think SHOULD cause riots) were presented in a manner that would reach the populace, people would care. In this case, it would require organization and leaders - I don't see that happening simply because anyone who is smart enough to be a leader is smart enough to know that they'll get in a "car accident" because of their position and it'll never get presented because the best ways to get that information out to the people isn't exactly controlled by people who aren't profiting from overseas ventures or the ignorance of the populace.

My friend argued that they wouldn't care regardless, I guess I'm a romantic for Revolution and the form of government they presented (the founding fathers) which is different than any standard form of government seen in the world today.

Let me explain the key difference to you about Americans (ie. Christians) and people from the middle east (muslims).

The gross of the American public is not motivated to do anything about the things in life that piss them off, whether it be small or large and they definitely are not willing to die for much of anything.

Muslims in the middle east on the other hand, whether by kinetic action of some sort, or by simply turning a blind eye, are for the most part all guilty of some sort of "terrorism" activities. They are fighting for a religion because the religion said to, or because their Imam said to and they relate to the reasons presented. They take all of the little things they don't like, and apply them to a greater picture with all the big things they really hate and turn it into kinetic force or passive support.

In America, we don't do that. We get angry really fast and we forget even faster because the only thing we really care about is whether the kids are at practice and how wasted I'm gonna get on Friday night.
You severely underestimate the collective black population in America.

Obama as millions of supports but he has the enormous majority of the black populous. The Rodney King riots are actually a really good comparison. Rodney King was a random drug abuser who got beat down, not killed, for speeding and "evading arrest." The result was Los Angeles imploding, LA being where he was from.

Obama has now become the symbol of black america to black america. If you think that his being assassinated would not incite riots, in the very least in largely black sectors of the country, in addition to other regions populated by supporters you are delusional. The reaction would range from public protest to massive rioting that would tear down some cities.

Americans may have the reputation of being passive and not pro-active but i promise you this situation would be very different.

Really, because Obama symbolizes nothing about Black America or Black Culture.

Let's play out your situation though.

Obama is killed, Black communities riot.

The military, which the law has been changed, is now allowed to patrol and subdue American cities - they move in and do exactly that.

-- The military (infantry wise) is overwhelmingly white, many of whom don't care for the stereotypical black persona

The American people, who are overwhelmingly not Black, see this crap happening and the media chalks it up as darkies being darkies, so there is a negative light cast upon the riots.

--Probably reflecting back to white people who were killed while President and seeing that there were no riots then and this is not proactive to helping the country.

The military moves in, does it's job, rock flag and eagle banners are waved, and it was all for naught.

    Sound right?

stuff like this really does piss me the fuck off. i mean seriously is it really that hard to put cultural differences aside and get the hell along :/. i see it this way, all of us as ffxi players get along just fine more or less on a daily basis i think mainly cause we don't know where each other is from unless we tell each other. We all play with europeans, americans, japanese, middle easterners, etc everyday and we get along. Now apply this to real life, if we ignored wtf nation we were all from like we do in ffxi how differently would everyone react?

In my case this is something i deal with daily. Racism and intolerance is not accepted at all on my mom's side of the family. on her side i got latino, african american, and middle eastern cousins. (my uncle was middle eastern too but hes dead now :/) I don't get wtf these people's problem is. It's just skin color, we're all human. i guess get along and do something useful with your lives to help the world instead of hating on everyone thats different then you.

First off, whether or not his policies are representative of black america his skin color and race are, and at this point, with him being in the position that he is as the first legit black presidential candidate, thats more than enough motivation.

Initially, during the first days and weeks after a hypothetical assassination, the whole media painting black people as darkies being darkies is going to be irrelevant. The pleading of supposed leaders of the black community will not matter. Im talking knee jerk reaction here.

And if you are going to compare the assassination of obama to any assassination of a white president, except maybe JFK because of his role in the Civil Rights Movement and Lincoln because of role in the Civil War, I don't really know what to say. Obama would clearly, most likely, be assassinated out of a race motivated intention. Find me an example of this besides the two i listed where race was an issue in the assassination.

Lets not forget the lasting impression other races would take away from it.

It'd basically be a wake-up call to every race that is not caucasian that your candidate for any high office would be shot and killed if they attempted to run.

So you know, all the Latinos, Asians, Indians, Native Americans etc would basically be watching exactly what would happen to them if they elected one of their own race. Why exactly would they not be rioting over the issue as well?

It'd be a shitstorm, the military would definitely have to be deployed in certain cities but lets not paint this as just black vs white.

I didn't paint it as black vs white, I painted it as black vs everyone.

White people aren't the only skin color that think black people are darkies.

Black people are generally thought of as being the "lowest" race by the other demographics in their respective areas, though in places where there is more of a hispanic presence than black, you'd have that thought process happening with them or any majority minority race really (Minnesota and asians for example).

All this nonsense over race. A shame race doesn't exist. What, you think humans randomly sprouted in certain parts of the planet with a certain color skin and language? lulz.

"Races" all look different because of geographical location. Simple as that. :<

Race is a synonym for culture in this aspect, and geographic location means genetic similarities which causes a disposition to certain things.

Intelligence is a product of your upbringing and your genetics.

The same exists with things like anger, addiction, athleticism, the different art forms, etc.

I don't know what the limiting factor is in these examples, but someone can only be so smart based on how their parents brought them up and what their brains and bodies would allow them to learn.

Yeah what Churchill said. It's pretty much a stigma which is gonna take many generations to fix. Some of us are definitely trying though.

It'd come down the simple question of "Can someone who isn't white run this country?" for many and for the image of "land of the free, home of the brave" it'd be a devastating blow.

There would be a bloodbath and i can guarantee that it wouldn't only be black people rioting and retaliating. The media can paint it whichever way they want but many younger people would put two and two together and realize that if Barack couldn't make it then their own races wouldn't stand a chance.

I know people of many other races who like to pretend that they aren't in the same situation as black people are in terms of racism but even the most racist of individuals could realize the can of worms that would be opened with the death of the United States' first ethnic president.

It'd be bigger than Pearl Harbor and 9/11 in terms of lasting impressions for sure.

Civil War as one poster put it? Not Quite.

    Edit: Grammar!

Dude it wont be black vs everyone. Most college kids are not black and you can bet your ass that a fair amount of them will be rioting/protesting, it may not be Rodney King but it will likely be Kent State or worse, and you can bet that will cause alot more anger amongst the public when their kids are getting shot then 'darkies' are.

edit: how the fuck is the military gonna be suppressing all these riots when we are busy surging Iraq and Afghanistan?

You guys are being silly. You just need to say how we all should get along and proclaim at every opportunity that you don't understand why blacks still hate white people, because enmity between ethnicities is not as big anymore. You should also hate on the south about how it's such a racist place and you wish the US would get rid of it as if the Americans from the north were any better.

    Yea, that works.

It's important to remember that the riots (which weren't just LA btw), were not sparked by the event of the beating, but rather by the announcement that the cops were getting away with it.
