So Fmr. Sec. of State George Mitchell just bought me dinner...

..well, not exactly, it was a democratic party dinner thing tonight to get our congressional candidates' faces seen more in this area and rally up support for state senate peeps and whatnot.

But there I am, in a musty church hall in the basement, and the room is very hot and filled with a lot of old people, and a kind of plump Republican lady in front of me in line who was obviously there just for the free dinner because she snorted every time someone said Obama's name (...well, actually, Obahm-er with the Maine accent)... so I'm just there, having just arrived, and "Hi, I'm George Mitchell."

"Yes, Senator Mitchell, I know who you are.." He was very nice, stood with me in line and chatted a while, since I had a long wait. A very very long line for hotdogs and baked beans and watered down Pepsi. Talked about nothing really, and of course everything, what with the election.

Then I got to speak to one of current House Reps, running for Senate, Tom Allen, and we were talking about a press conference he did today and what the responses of the incumbent's campaign staff were and whatnot, and our other incumbent House Rep who will likely win again. He actually said that some of what her campaign was saying "pissed him off," and that was kinda weird, cuz it was so like, not typical polished demeanor.

I ended up volunteering to help make phone calls for the next week to get people out to vote, vote early, and hopefully vote for change, etc etc insert other cliches here. If anything, I figure I'll find myself in some interesting political debates in the next week.

But anyway, just wondering if anyone else has attended any rallies or fundraisers or whatevers this election, what you took away from them... I went to see Howard Dean speak and worked on his campaign and meetups and whatnot back in 2004 when I was still in MI, and kinda wish I was still back there because I could have had a chance to see Obama speak as well. I dunno, the last month I've really gotten much more into the campaign and all, guess it has something more to do with being around adults again that I can talk to now that I have a job other than nannying.

Be prepared to get a lot, and I mean a LOT of pissed of people in your ear. I finally broke down and blocked the 2 DNC spam #'s they use from calling and waking me up during the day after I made some girl cry when she woke me up for the 4th time today.

in a effort to rerail the topic here.

getting have dinner with politicians sounds interesting. Not something everyone gets to do. My aunt gets invited to dinner parties a lot with the politicians in NJ. I think most interesting story though of everyday random joe hanging with someone well known in the military/government is one of my other aunt's getting to spend a day with donald rumsfeld. (sp?) she was helping set up a intelligence compound in iraq early in the war and rumsfeld ended up over there for a few days from something or other and my aunt got to meet him and spend the day with him. sent my dad a e-mail with pics too ^^ (her other pics of iraq looked like she was so fucking depressed over there but she was happy in the rumsfeld ones) I suppose if your in the right place at the time you get to met interesting people. I'm one of the unlucky bastards though that hasn't met anyone remotely famous although i did go to high school with guy whimper from the NY giants before he was in pro football if ya wanna count that lol. my dad being a huge freakin giants fan being hes from NY had guy autograph all his NY giants stuff when he was back home here in NC a few months back. Was like a few months after they won the superbowl earlier in the year. Guy is like one of the most down to earth people there is. he never let his new found fame on the NY giants change him.

Now i'm curious what kinda even remotely famous people you guys met that if ya named em we'd know who they are (or could at least wiki them to find out).

a while back (I was real young I guess) we went to visit my grandparents down in Kennebunkport one year, and apparently the whole GHWBush was there and apparently shook my hand and whatnot, can't say I remember it though, apparently some good family friends were somewhat close to the bushes back in the day

Bob Dole shakes hands with his left hand, upside down, because he can't use his right hand, and everyone naturally shakes hands with their right.

Most people don't even notice when they meet him and experience it.

Bill Clinton tripped over my dog. True story.

My parents were walking my dog in Geneva, NY and some secret service people cross the street and start asking my parents if they wanted to meet Bill Clinton. After answering some questions and undoubtedly getting a quick background check they signaled to my parents to cross the road and approach Bill.

They chatted, and then my now dead dog (I love you buddy!), Cody, wrapped his leash around Bill's legs and he almost fell over.

    Hehe.

My mom also went to a Obama/Biden rally in Florida where she saw Biden speak. She said she had an amazing time.
