I got a chance to play this at the 2007 Quakecon. It was a lot of fun trying to figure out ways to make it to the next safe point without running out of ammo or dying. As I understand it though, they made quite a few changes so they game might be quite a bit different from the demo I was allowed to play.

If you've pre-ordered the game, the demo is now playable for you (playable on the 11th for everyone else). I can't give any impressions on it though as I've only downloaded 62% of it so far and I'm gonna get some sleep. I'm going to have to squeeze in some playtime alongside Gears 2 today.

Demo is roughly a 1.2 gig download from what I heard.

here's my impressions so far


was playing a bit of the single player (offline) campaign, which is just 1 level

the game is very fast paced, you have to reload a lot as there are so many monsters that you have to go through a lot of ammunition

pistol has infinite ammo, even when you are dual-pistoling

demo does not let you play as the infected (which i am not happy about, as i was more interested in playing as that faction than the survivors)

firing at your teammates is something that is very easy to do on accident, when there are swarms of undead on your screen

FOV seems really strange, similar to (in my opinion) TF2, everything seems way too close to the screen

it's hard to set up a dedicated server, and you cannot set up a private p2p server from within the game, which is disappointing

on my system (Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.4, 4GB DDR2-1066, 8800 GTX, Vista Ultimate x64), the game dips down into the 40-50fps range with maxed settings

Not sure I like that, as the graphics don't really look good enough to warrant that kind of performance

i have yet to die, mouse 2 is your friend (knock-back button)

TF2's default FOV is 75, but you have to option to set it back to a normal 90, Reality.

I want to try it before I look into buying it, it looked like an awesome game through the gameplay videos I saw, but what you guys are saying is making me wonder.

is it possible to compare it to dead space?
i loved dead space, and if it's supposed to be as good (or better), i'll get it for sure.
checked out the trailers and stuff; looks like it has potential.

it's not even the same type of game as dead space, there's no comparison to the two other than they have undead monsters in it

one is a third person "chase-cam" survival horror game like Resident Evil 4, the other is an online CO-OP FPS with swarms of relentless zombies

Yeah pretty much as he said it, its a fast paced game where dead space isnt so much, I like dead space much better thus far if you had to compair the two, which is hard to do.

I've been looking forward to this since I heard about it, and that trailer doesn't help the wait any. A lot of my friends are prolly going to get this too, so I'm sure we'll get a lot of play out of it in coop.

Haha, I guess they had to one up Dead Rising quite literally. Apparently there's an achievement for getting that amount of zombies in L4D too.

Anyway, for those playing, how is it? Was thinking of picking it up but I think I'll probably end up getting bored of it fast. PC version is better than the 360 one too I assume?

Right now I can't keep off of it. I've played expert mode 3 times and no matter what every group I've played with ends up restarting from the last safe point. Its amazingly fun and if you fuck up your save (when you close the safe point door) you can pretty much fuck the game. ALWAYS ALWAYS grab health packs heal then shut the door because the packs respawn. Deff important in expert.

Super Duper fun

EDIT: Best playthrough was on (Expert) Subway level. At the very end, the dude hits the switch and before he can make it back and Smoker grabs him with the tongue and pulls him to the upper floor. I go and try to save him, but its too late. The horde comes and fucks us up.
