I didn't know about that...is this, by any chance, possible when producing Tarutaru Rice ? or Tokopekko Grass ?

Edit: OMG now everyone knows about my secret recipes :/

I was more referring to the fact that fire crystals for one type of seed might cause them to grow faster than earth crystals.

Oh nevermind, I got this the wrong way :/

Out of curiosty, what do you guys grow for money ? NPC-able stuff (tokopekko grass recipe seems to be quite popular lately), random AH-able items (taru rice and other cooking ingredients for instance), bigger value items (elemental ores comes to mind) ?

Tarutaru Rice has been something I've grown in the past. I get lots of grain seeds when farming saplings/bees in Konschtat Highlands. Chocobo food is more common for me to grow now. Selling it on the AH or in bazaars works well enough for me.

I also grew Ice Ores for a while in my arcane flowerpot. Vendoring the platinum leaves and selling the ores (I got 2 per pot) was quite nice, but very slow.

I mostly do chocobo food as well, and just started on taru rice to cut costs on sushi-making.

I used to do lots of cuttings->sapplings, when it was very profitable (~early 2005). I tried elemental ores a few times, but never managed to grow a single one, since I always forgot to check or feed my plants :/

Neven even knew you could harvest more than one per pot. But even with that, you have to have a lot of these growing at the same time to make it a big profit...

I've only ever gotten 2 ores from 1 pot with Arcane flowerpots.

Growing things from herb/veggie seeds is roughly a kagabillion times more satisfying than trying to grow ores. See results in a week instead of taking a whole month to get 8574315747071 rock salts! Even if you don't get something good, what have you lost?

I may just start growing stuff on more than one mule!

That's pretty much the reason why I don't grow ores anymore.

Something that I've been wondering for a while : How important is it to check your plants ? And how often should you check them optimally ?

I tried checking them 3, 2, 1 times per day, and got some good and some bad harvests out of it. And I also tried not checking them at all, only logging in time for the xtal feeding, and ended up getting good and bad harvests as well.

Now my experience with that is not so reliable since I only tested each method 2-3 times. Anyone has some better knowledge or hints about the best checking frequency ?

I do my best to check my plants once a day (RL). though sometimes I let them go longer than 1 day because I forget to check them. I'm usually growing things in bulk so if I get 1 or 2 bad harvests it isn't usally a problem. For me it's all about averages.

The shorter the growth period, the more necessary it is to check plants.

I regularly grow using Tree Saplings, and I never check. I plant, feed a crystal twice, and harvest.

However, Tree Cuttings need to be checked at a minimum of once every other day.

I also believe though that crystal feedings reinforce the "stamina" of the seed, but I've never done tests for this.

I'm gonna keep track of my results, hopefully I can notice some sort of trend after a few dozens harvests...checking plants is really annoying and I would love to skip it totally.

I wildgrass garden and never check them. I generally plant them on a Monday, feed them on a Thursday and leave them till they're fully cooked.

Yeah, I do similar, though I do check them once after planting and feeding. Plant - wait three days - feed - wait three days - harvest.

    I generally don't have Mogenhancment:Gardening.

When I check the faster seed, I also check the trees at the same time and no time else.

I noticed something odd today about my wildgrass plants and different growth rates using different crystals. Usually I feed them all the same crystal but when I fed them it was late and I only had 8 ice crystals, so I fed the first 2 plants a lightning crystal instead. I just logged to check them and the first 2 plants with the lightning crystals are still in the non-flowering stage, but all of the ice fed ones are in the flowering stage. I've never noticed anything like this before since I almost always use 10 of the same crystal, so I'm not sure how significant the difference is in time.

Pikko lists the lightning crystal method as noticeably longer than the water one (173 vs 138 Vanadiel days). I had no idea you could grow something out of these seeds with Ice crystals though.

Ice crystals and Wildgrass seeds give Zegham Carrots, Azouph Greens, Sharug Greens, Wind Crystals, or Gysahl Greens.
