I'm from Texas which will go to McCain, and i'm still going to vote from Obama.

Kansas is not one of them, and Texas is not one of them...

There's a big difference in the percentage of people who will vote for a black democrat in VA when compared to KS. You're giving this state far too much credit. And when/if this state ever swings blue, its 6 electoral votes (perhaps 5 for future elections).. it's a pretty meaningless contribution to the needed 270. If I lived in a swing state, or.. at the very least a state with a significant number of electoral votes, maybe I'd care enough to vote. I'm obviously not real passionate about the election either way (or the election process), but I support Obama out of our options..

Along that line of thinking, I think its fine to be passionate and actively support your candidate, even if hes a third party candidate, all the way up until the election. Then, if its pretty obvious the states not going your way, I don't really care if you don't vote. If its reasonably close in the polls though, I'd say its worth it to actually vote, especially since absentee is so easy. And props/measures/congressional candidates are often worth voting for as well.

I don't understand the logic of people who refuse to vote because it "won't make a difference". You seem to think you're the only one out of 6 million people in your area who feels that way.

If, for example, in Texas, 550 million people are voting... 250 million vote for Obama and 300 million vote for McCain, if 51 million people decided they simply didn't want to vote for Obama because it "wouldn't make a difference" they're missing out on a possible opportunity to elect Obama for their state.

While it's true that representative states aren't like swing states and usually pick a candidate ahead of time, it is never a waste of a vote to vote.

If that's the idea then it's pointless to vote because the Electoral College is the body that actually elects the President. You don't vote because it could make a difference - you vote because you can.

Using non-concrete statistics to make a point does not invalidate the point. And it is the Electoral College that decides the Presidency. They can choose to ignore the popular vote if that is what they want to do.

Honestly kind of pathetic to see people not wanting to vote when there are millions of people around the world who can't and in some cases would give their lives so others in their country could, or the fact that thousands of people in this country are being prevented from voting by their state governments and others. If you dislike both candidates vote for the one you dislike least, because certainly the prospect of one of the tickets in the white house scares you much more than the other case.

The margin of victory is actually very important for figuring out the true composition of the state and figuring out shifts over time. The only poll that anybody really trusts is the actual vote (whether or not they should trust that is another story).

You should vote, because you want your true opinion to be heard instead of just being tossed aside as a Texan (and therefore, outside of Austin, Republican ofc).
