Okay so I'm a racist, how nice of you to inform me. I'm sure my black brother-in-law, who my sister has been married to for eight years and they have a wonderful marriage and he couldn't be a nicer guy, he would be as surprised to hear that as I am.

The real reason I'm not voting, as I said before, is because I live in D.C. I'm not going to whine about the Electoral College being an archaic, ineffective system, but the fact is Obama will win by a landslide here and my one vote for either candidate is not going to matter.

Another reason is, I am required to have the news on in my office. And 95% of the time it's a cable news network, and to be honest I'm just plain sick of it all. I've had both candidates crammed down my throat pretty steadily for what seems like an eternity, and in my opinion both candidates have made this political season intolerable.

I dislike McCain because his campaign has been entirely too negative and his policy ideas seem vague and ineffective. Also, his choice of Sarah Palin is an unmitigated disaster, not so much because she can't name Supreme Court cases or got a new wardrobe, but because she's an uber-conservative who would further ruin the Republican party by handing it over to the extreme right.

I dislike Obama because his campaign has turned into a advertising brand name more than a political platform, which his 30-minute infomercial the other night seemed to solidify. "CHANGE AND HOPE" or "HOPING FOR CHANGE" or "CHANGEFUL HOPE" can only get you so far. His policy ideas are too liberal for my tastes, and I don't believe his tax cut promises. Although he's not as bad as Palin, I'm no fan of Joe Biden either.

I've always considered myself a Republican, but frankly I'm dissatisfied with the party in general. When I was growing up, the Republicans were about states' rights, small government, and expert foreign relations. Now, it's states' rights (except for gun control, abortion or gay marriage), small government (except for astronomical defense spending), and expert foreign relations (except for not talking to most of our "enemies" and forcing our allies to do our bidding.) The religious right and special interests have really taken control, and there's no reason to change because the GOP has had the White House for 20 of the last 28 years. The last two elections, I would have really gotten behind a centrist Democratic nominee, except that Kerry and Obama have two of the most liberal Senatorial records in recent memory. If I was forced by law to vote, I would probably vote for Obama. But I decided a long time ago that I would not be participating this year.

Either that or I hate blacks. Take your pick.

I wasn't just responding to you, sorry if it seemed like that since I quoted you, but other people on these boards find it unthinkable that everyone isn't drinking the Obama Kool-Aid yet. Yeah I wrote a lot about it but I was just sort of releasing my general frustration with the last five months or so since it's become apparent that it would be Obama v. McCain. I don't know what it says about my character, any more or less than trolling forums or playing an MMO, but c'est la vie.

I abstained from picking a President. Won't matter in California anyways, Obama will win here in a landslide. I did however send in my absentee ballot for some of the propositions. It's not like I'm not voting.

This little kid in Georgia, i think he is 9 years old, used a voting machine as his halloween costume last night

basically, he would go door to door like any other kid on halloween, but instead of just putting the candy in a bag, he let the neighbors put the candy into either an obama or mccain "candy ballot" slot

Too the people talking about not voting to avoid Jury Duty, that's a myth, or at least it is here in Massachusetts. I only registered at the beginning of October, but was called for Jury Duty a few months back. Obviously too late to register now but The More You know =*.

Massachusetts jury duty is a bit different(better) than the rest of the country though. Also, not voting for one candidate over the other just cause you live in a state that will go to a certain way in a landslide is retarded. The popular vote may not matter for getting a person into the white house but if you want your candidate to have a mandate to get their policies through Congress then give them a landslide in the popular vote. Its why prior to 9/11 Bush couldn't really do much, and its why after 2004 he couldn't change Social Security the way he wanted to.

edit: and i love how its the Obama supporters that are drinking the koolaid when hes the one who has actually said how he is going to help people, and its McCain/Palin that are deluding many of their supporters into voting for them when it makes fucking 0 sense for them to do so economically.
