I thought BioShock being pretty much the unanimous GOTY last year was less than a crock. Of course, not every year has a BioShock and not every year is the actual GOTY the most "deserving" of the award. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a BioShock-equivalent this year.

If I had to guess, Fallout 3 will probably win.

I hope fallout doesn't win, now with the glitches and all that shit. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game but it had its flaws. Talk of the of the year has constantly come down to GTA4, LBP, and Fallout 3.
I would personally pick MGS4 over them any day. But in the end I highly doubt it would win because there are so many people out there that bitch about the cut scene time. By part four they should know enough about the game to know it was going to have long ass cut scenes. If anything, I felt they were to short this time around.

I'm enjoying LBP but my 2 major concerns with the game are:

    1) Jumping is downright unforgivably bad, other minor control issues.
    2) Community levels are modded for content, not quality.

You can't really view LBP without the creation aspect, but if you could you'd be left with a seriously underwhelming platformer. Yes, there's a lot of potential in the community levels but a huge number of are, although creative, poorly designed and even more poorly tested masquerading as "tricky" and "difficult".

The problem, as I see it, is that LBP has too many flaws for people who aren't seriously into creating levels to stick with it past a few months. Perhaps that's what was intended, for a community of creators to create and enjoy eachother's creations, but I don't see lasting appeal for the casual gamer, at least not at the level that the hype for the game led me to believe.

Do I like LBP? Yes, absolutely. It's frustrating, but fun. The ability to create is fresh and exciting, but it doesn't make up for the control issues. Is it overhyped? Yes, absolutely, but no more so than any other big release.

As for GOTY LBP certainly seems like a contender, your feelings on the validity and/or bullshitness of GOTY in general not withstanding, but the game's flaws really can't be overlooked. I don't think fallout3 is any more of a contender, it's a truly fantastic game but I had the exact same "oh wow" moments when I played oblivion, and although the oblivion style lends itself to the fallout series there's been very little innovation between oblivion and fallout. MGS4 and GTA4 are other obvious contenders as well, but I don't see LBP standing above anything else put out this year.

I typed a lot more than I should have, and I don't want to give the sense that I'm not enjoying LBP a lot, because I really am. Not to accuse anyone of fanboyism but I'm sure someone will read this and get personally offended and feel the need to respond like I killed their dog because I said something negative about the game, but relax. The game is great, it's just not as great as everyone says it is.

If this were true Azure Palace would still be up. It's got zero objectionable content but it's among the highest quality levels yet created. Fuckin' mod system for this game is terrible.
