You are going to die in campaign.

    Period.

There is too much random crap going on and too much influence from other players to say that you'll never die. You will.

Try to keep RR up. Thank people in /tell when they are raising you. They love it and it's nice to thank them for their time/mp. If you have raise, raise someone. Don't come up with 100 different stipulations of when you will raise someone. Don't be an elitiest ass.

Pretty simple stuff here. If you've done campaign before, chances are you've died w/o RR on before.

I think this thread was bumped in honor of Michael Jackson. We needed something to rise from the dead, Thriller style.

Since he hasn't risen from the dead is it safe to assume he didn't have RR and everyone else with raise left?

    Alternately:

If he had seen this thread sooner he would have remembered to go /whm and cast RR.

    /sigh

I used to go to Campaign PLD/WHM just for RR back when I did it all the time. Sure, /dnc was way more effective, but I was strapped for cash, and I didn't want to depend on other people.

Either do it in group, or be responsible for your own raise.

I know I am only continuing the necro, but still.

As a mage, I am not your slave. I have enough shit to put up with from A.Hole DDs in real exp parties and during event.

Campaign is one of the only places I can get away with ignoring them all.

I normally go RDM/WAR to campaign for the attack buffs (I can easy tank mob with enfeebles and stoneskin so no need for /nin). So I have to put up with not being able to cast reraise, yet I am not bitching because I can buy RR items with AN or money.

If I can't afford to do that then I will /whm.

For the record: I do raise people between waves, but normally I don't bother until all the normal mobs are dead.

Healing = points. Tank the mob and we both benefit from it. In this game, nobody really gives a damn about anybody, unless there is some benefit to be had :/. You get points for taken shitloads of damage and I get points for healing you lol. I still can't really get people to understand that though and they just wont voke and I end up having to cast gravity and run for my life.

I don't hold back raises though and only did it once in my 5 years playing a job that can use it. That said, I don't really abandon my play style when in campaign.

    Raising is also points.

However, due to the way the caps and experience rates are structured, healing people loses in the long run versus people dealing and taking damage. Playing support in Campaign has slowly had it's knees taken out from under it.

Self-sufficiency, especially with Reraise, is the only way to go. DRK/WHM or /SCH is pretty indestructable unless faced with a serious Beastman General or overwhelming numbers. I'll tank/fight for hate on any mob, it's all just more points for me.

I'll gladly raise people who were seriously participating in the fight, but if you come running past with 6 mobs or a General on you, die at me feet, and then get me killed, you best not be counting on a raise from me afterwards.

    This.

I hit a patch of these retards last week. I'm fighting away from everyone (but still where they can see me, just avoiding links/aggro) and idiots run to me with a pack of things and get me killed. Happened in 2-3 of the battles I did that day which is more than I'm used to.

I agree with TBR as well. Ever since the Brd nerf Campaign has sucked for support. Whenever I go Rdm I just go /War now to tank since it offers the best points. I think Smn and Sch might be the only ones who get decent points for support due to their AOEs not being limited to party only.

SMN also gets the benefit of having their Avatar damage calculated into their final point/note count. Not going to lie, i get a little jealous when i see someone's Garuda Haste like 30 people/npcs, drop 2k+ damage on a mob, pull hate immediately, and then suck up loads of damage while the SMN just kinda stands around, doing whatever it is SMNs do while their Avatars do the heavy lifting.

The downside to SCH in campaign is we need to have at least one NPC around, or accession+whatever support spell will not work on regular players.

I never realized that avatar damage (received) counted. I may have to start going on Smn to Campaign then

Yar. Pix and I did some testing after the adjustments because BRD just wasn't cutting it anymore for xp/points. She's much lower rank than me, and it's hard to match the xp/point generation of DRK/WHM, but it was her SMN that was able to close up the field pretty tightly in terms of results. Earthen Ward, Hastega, and Spring Water can turn the tide of an entire fight and i've seen her Garuda drop some huge damage numbers with P.Claws. The last campaign battle we did was a Vunkerl that netted me about 4100xp and her about 3300xp. After she hits max rank we should be pretty close, i'm really gonna have to turn it up to beat her.

The only downside is that, as a taru SMN, she dies in like 3 hits if a mob comes for her. XD

Heh, if only people lived by the adage "treat others as you would like to be treated" we'd be in a much better place. Sadly, we are to jaded to think beyond ourselves. Just too jaded as proven by the majority of the posts so far, which is sad indeed.

Considering how Campaign is set up, isn't it more beneficial for a defensive RDM to let the tanks die so he can absorb all the hits for himself without having to deal with provokes/etc and high WS damage? Just the way it is really.

Well, with all the spells available to a RDM i can't see it being that hard to start generating points quickly and keep them rolling over the course of a battle. If a RDM is focusing more on DEF, they're going to be losing out on offensive melee point generation. I've seen some RDMs tear hate off all kinds of other jobs just by healing them, almost excessively, combined with debuffs, Joytoy spam, etc. Convert is a hell of a hate potent tool too.

Letting tanks, real tanks, die in Campaign can potentially slow down progress for everyone. Yeah, they're sucking up Damage Taken points, but they're also preventing higher damage mobs from just stomping all over less defensive players and the fortifications. In a Campaign with no NPCs, lots of dead people can mean the Campaign ends quickly, and that's less xp/notes for everyone.
