I'd say logically the SC should be able to strike down gay marriage bans but I don't trust the current court enough to say that with confidence :/

lol, he keeps getting closer
In the contemporary era, though? The Supreme Court has done little more than sit on their hands for quite a while now.
If they haven't, they sure aren't proving that they're doing anything noteworthy.
I think he was talking about the California Supreme court.
I thought at a certain point the supreme court can stop any initiatives from even being considered and put on the ballot. When is there decision final and upheld?
Otherwise states could be going back and forth like this for a very long time.
Already disappointing. Here in the United States, President-elect Obama stayed mostly out of public view Wednesday, one day after his historic election. In his first major staffing move, Obama has offered Democratic Congress member Rahm Emanuel of Chicago the position of White House Chief of Staff. Emanuel served as an aide under the Clinton administration and has been a key Democratic Party leader in Congress. On foreign policy, Emanuel is thought to represent the right wing of the Democratic Party. He has vocally backed Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza and its 2006 attack on Lebanon. Obama’s transition team has begun to prepare for taking office. The group is headed by John Podesta, President Clinton’s former chief of staff and the president of the Center for American Progress.
I certainly don't know if most voter initiative systems are used for bad purposes, but it sure this sure does seem like a swell way to use democracy.
An advisor to Obama.Rahm Emanuel is entitled to his views.
From another NY Times article:
“But Mr. Emanuel has worked at good relations with Republicans, and has the grudging respect of some. Three years ago, when Representative Tom Cole of Oklahoma sought to be the House Republicans’ campaign chairman, he distributed a dozen talking points to his party colleagues. No. 1: “Rahm Emanuel is a world-class political operator,” so Republicans needed Mr. Cole’s political experience.
Soon after Mr. Emanuel’s election in 2002, he called Representative Ray LaHood, a Republican from downstate Illinois. Since then, Mr. LaHood said, the two have cooperated on legislation and co-hosted bipartisan dinners, including a half-dozen this year. Each of them invites about six or seven legislators from their respective parties to a Capitol Hill restaurant for “free flowing” discussions.
“He knows you need Republicans to get anything done,” Mr. LaHood said.
Late last week, Mr. Emanuel called Mr. LaHood for advice about his career. Mr. LaHood once was the chief of staff to a former Republican minority leader of the House, Robert Michel.
“A chief of staff is sort of the alter ego of the president,” Mr. LaHood said. “Philosophically, on principles and values, they just have to be totally in sync.” He thinks Mr. Emanuel would be “a perfect fit” for Mr. Obama.

Its Saddam! OMG! we gunna die!
Seriously, Rahm Emanuel is a good pick. He has been there, done that already. He knows how the White House politics works.
