waited too late. owned...
Tekki you skinny procrastinating bastard!
So many NoVA's here.
I voted earlier today. Since I expected a huge crowd, I walked instead of hunting for a parking spot. Took 40 minutes, including walking both ways, and then I got to work an hour earlier than normal b/c I expected the process to take an hour longer than it did.
I was #202 for my line (3 lines, based on last name). The longest part of the process was verifying my photo ID. They asked me to give my name, then my address (which were verified off of the driver's license that I had just handed to them). Then I had to wait while it was recorded by 3 people.
I think it will be very close, at least in VA. If the rest of the nation is as close, we may not know a winner for a few more days.
I got lucky when I went today. 2 people waiting in the A-M line, 0 people in the N-Z line, so I went in right away. Also got a free coffee from Starbucks after.
Kind of random, but in watching Conan the other night, he was interviewing one of the big-shot network reporters and it came up that voting options should somehow be incorporated into the current generation gaming consoles. I actually thought it was a pretty good idea, but getting the infrastructure in place would probably be a nightmare given how much difficulty simply moving away from paper ballots to electronic booths has been.
From what little I know about the US voter registraton system, it's a shame that kind of thing happens. In Canada, so long as you can provide two or three pieces of ID to show that you have a permanent address in a riding and are at the proper polling station, you can vote there. Although our elections are a simple "mark X by the name of the candidate you want" ballots without all that extra stuff you yanks have to vote for, so I can see reasons why polling-place registration isn't allowed.
It started to snow while I was waiting outside in a line to vote today... was very cold.
Kentucky >> McCain >> 8 electoral votes
Indiana >> Obama >> 11 electoral votes
We still have an hour =/
Edit: The state is split in half on Central and Eastern
There was a "No guns allowed!" sign (picture and everything) outside one of the polling places I passed by today. I mean honestly..
How dare they abridge your second amendment rights.
Now McCain is catching up in India, 48% to 51% Obama favored...
