I was listening to the radio last night and couldn't help but laugh at some of the callers. People calling in saying such things as oooh yes baby obama gonna take care of me pay my mortgage my gas etc.. Through the course of a couple hours calls like this were quite frequent and to be honest it makes me sad because so many think obama = free ride

How often do successful businesses properly reward their employees beyond small bonus checks or stupid stuff like a new xerox machine for the office? Can't say I've ever heard of a case where if profits were up x% for one year, all wages were upped x% in kind. One or two guys might get a raise, but is it always who deserved it most?

Thanks Tyche, that was well said. 'hard work' is a very vague term at the very least indeed. We all make our choice and sacrifices in life to try to reach (hopefully) some goal. While's it's unfair to say who works the 'hardest', much is to be also said about instant gratification and gradual success and failure over time. In today's society more and more people are 'on demand' and are far too impatient to wait for something. It's true from all aspects of society, from lolMMORPG's to business. Of course Obama's campaign spoke more to these 'on demand' people, and in today's society that is a winner. I hope he does great things for the country, but fail to see how many of his 'new' policies are much different than bills already in congress proposed by everyone's most loved to hate president Mr. Bush. Take a good look, they're all there. Healthcare, housing, unemployment reforms ... all there. Nothing new really is ever said in an election year anyway(aside from terrorism last election which was brought on mostly by surprise).

My personal view is simple. If you've exhausted all possible personal resources, then ask for help. Financial intervention should be the last option, not the second or third. Where's the personal pride gone?

lol @ acting like employers don't already cut hours, benefits, staff, etc when business is bad. the problem isn't doing what you gotta do to keep your business solvent; the problem is doing the aforementioned things just to keep a personal profit up and then have the gall to complain about a slightly higher tax rate.

Like it or not, sympathy goes down as income goes up because past whatever point there is no risk for for not easily being able to live a comfortable, decent life.

I really don't think any Republican would have won this election. McCain is a better Republican candidate for President than their past nominees. Although, yes, the addition of Palin to the ticket didn't really help his chances of winning, but McCain himself doesn't deserve a whole lot of ridicule, especially after his speech last night.
