Can someone explain this Napolitano pick to me? I don't see anything in her wiki or her bio at her .gov page that shows much of an interest in Homeland Security, let alone expertise with it. Obama's picks have been reasonable-to-good so far, but this one just leaves me scratching my head.

As Governor of Arizona, she has experience in dealing with immigration, which important for Homeland security.

I suppose, but immigration is only one aspect of securing the Father... homeland. I'm just unsure about this one, but perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised.

The Napolitano pick is likely for immigration awareness (and not the silly ass redneck "BUILD A GODDAM WALL" type of awareness) and for leadership/organizational competence. Napolitano has largely done well for AZ, and maybe what Obama is looking for is strong operational/leadership skills to make sure the department runs efficiently and does it's job.

I mean Tom Ridge's resume is really no more impressive than Napolitano's at all... I kind of think Napolitano's legal background and more realistic experience with immigration gives her an edge in comparison (Ridge was a member of the US Congress and governor of... Pennsylvania... prior to his homeland security appointments).

I guess I don't know exactly what you're looking for in the position then. An ex-CIA or someone with a military background? I think a lot of Homeland Security stuff is logistics (check all the gaps and check them again, allocate manpower/resources efficiently, streamline security checks/processes) rather than how to conduct elite spec ops raids in the desert.

No, the time when I met her, she struck me as very similar to what I've read and gathered about Reno. She was horrible with the immigrant issue in Arizona which I guess separates her from Reno, since Reno was all about some deportation. That and killing people.

According to the latest info from obama's aides, the appointment of hilary will be forthcoming right around thanksgiving. Congress just gave the big three auto the middle finger.
