I didn't like /sam in exp until 70 with seigan. Hasso and meditate by themselves aren't really worth sacrificing shadows in your average exp pt imo.
Patroclus's Helm is another alternative for head if you can get one
My WARs only 66 at the moment, but you can pick up some nice STR items really cheap for your WS's. I got Pallas's Bracelets, 2 x sun ring and Creek M clomps for under 100kOh and i done a 1200 raging rush on an xp mob last night, woohoo lol
I used abtal dastanas recently while leveling drk, I wish they'd been around when I was on war. 5 str/5 agi, nice to ws in without the dex penalty on multi hits.
Though I always preach the glory of /Sam, and the utility of /Dnc, never underestimate /Nin while leveling.
It's the undeniable rule of D's, and it applies moreso for Nyzul than any other situation I've encountered since I hit 75 (it's what finally got me to regularly enjoy /Nin)...
Dead Damage Dealers Do Diddly Damage.
We typically do Nyzul as
War/Sam
Drk/Sam for Floor 100 (War/Sam for other Floors)
Brd/Nin
Whm/Smn
Rdm/Blm
Last spot is either a BLM or another melee Typically a War or a Thf for TH
We tried going /nin one run to see if it helped the whm at all......it was like we were killing in slow motion lol. 6 Hit Build Spam for Nyzul onry! :-p
Eh, Im a fully merited 2hander, well geared. My kill speed loss is more than compensated for by being able to avoid taking magic damage.
If TE could avoid magic, it would rock, but being able to just laugh at mobs casting AM and DoT's and shit at you really is priceless.
that and the whole mob radar/not having to buy oil/powder thing
Mob Radar is why I enjoy subbing Nin, actually.
I always forget about it til I do shit like Nyzul.
It may not be fillmode 1, but I can still TELL there is something around that corner.
As much as I hate subbing ninja, I still understand it's usefulness. 6-hit build with bravura on war/sam makes me tear up everytime i head out on the job, but there are just certain situations (especially with bravura) where going war/sam will just get me killed. If i'm eating dirt, I'm not hitting the mob.
Situations where most of the damage ignores shadows or is AOE (Khim assault we recently did) I went /sam. I also had a good tank with me.
Situations where I anticipate having hate for extended periods of time, /nin is a good idea. Or for situations where single target high level spells may hit me in the face (like max said).
But with all that in mind /sam is the pinnacle of damage output for warrior. In my case sometimes I go /sam and I really have to hold back so I don't get splatted. Luckily metatron torment can help me out ever so slightly when third-eye is down by reducing the damage i take.
But if I'm going to be tanking a bit, then not going /nin would be silly. Example I did a ISNM Puk run (Shadows of the Mind) and we had no "true tank". I went war/nin put up defender, retaliation, shadows, used Metatron Torment. I kept hate and reduced my damage fairly significantly to the point where nobody missed having a Paladin or Ninja.
I know everyone loves putting up big numbers but it's not ALWAYS about damage. Because, do paraphrase Max's cute saying, if you can't survive you can't do damage anyway. However, if you can survive easily going full throttle, you'd be a fool not to![]()
