I now use a seedbox to do all my dling then pull it down using sftp ! Saves time. only like 15 bucks a month for 53 gigs and its burstable up to 10 mbps. Helps ratio on private sites. If one of your hard drives doesnt get fucking mangled right when you start uploading all of your torrent data up to the box ;;!

How should torrenting not be illegal?
It doesn't belong to you, you didn't pay for it, and if you don't pirate it you would have to buy it. It's not the same as borrowing, because with borrowing there still exists only 1 copy.

I'm not saying don't torrent - I think everyone does anymore. But crying that it shouldn't be illegal is lol

Honestly, I don't think anyone is downright 100% saying that torrenting copyrighted material isn't illegal. But people that complain about other people doing it BECAUSE it's illegal probably speed while driving. Pretty sure that's illegal too but I guarantee almost everyone on here does it.

I liked the picture someone had a while ago, something like "The difference between piracy and stealing" and a little diagram of duplicating a CD "Piracy isn't stealing, it's making a copy".

    Makes me chuckle every time.

Well in the scenario you're talking about, if I borrow a CD from a friend, one of the first things I do is copy it onto my computer. Which if I'm not mistaken is considered piracy since you're making a copy. (Especially if you burn a copy to a new CD)

Are people really arguing that piracy and stealing are two different things? Different definitions, same basic meaning. You're taking goods without paying for them. Whether you feel bad about that is the question. I torrent things all the time, and mostly pick and choose what, and I generally don't give a fuck. But lets not kid ourselves.... you're taking money out of someone's pockets.

    Anyway, to re-rail slightly:

It's very simple to avoid getting letters like this. First and foremost, do not use public trackers. Ever. They're insecure, a large percentage of files are really viruses, and you're very prone to the RIAA and whoever else who can easily enter the swarm and harvest IP addresses. Make friends and get invites to private trackers, and that will solve 99% of your problems.

If you have to use public trackers, get PeerGuardian2. It's easy to configure and use, and only a minor inconvenience. No excuse not to use it.

If you do get letters like these, I don't recommend what was suggested on the first page, which is basically being an ass. Why are you going to try to provoke these people? Don't call attention to yourself. Write a small note apologizing or claiming your little brother did it, and let that be the end of it. It takes many repeat infractions before anything serious will happen to you, but if you write nasty letters like an idiot, those guys can make your life miserable.
