Was $2.30 when I filled up after voting the other day. Possible it dropped since then, but haven't been down that way to see. Either way, seeing sub-two buck gas will definitely be a good thing. Doubt it'll ever hit under a dollar like it was when I got my license, but $1.50 sure beats the shit out of $4.00.

Prices aren't low because of the gas companies, they're low because the dollar is strong right now since the ECB had to take measures and drop their key interest rate after the Bank of England lowered theirs (3.75 to 3.25 and 4.5 to 3 percent, respectively). These are fucking huge drops, made in anticipation for the looming economic recession (Swiss and Czech banks central banks did the same thing).

The dollar is strong sure, but don't let that fool you, the reason it's strong is only because it's trading better than other currencies right now because other countries are anticipating the economic chaos in store. When our economy does poorly, so do other nation's economies, and when the world's economy is in decline you can expect gas prices to drop along with them simply because investors know the demand for gas is going to drop. OPEC is trying to fight the decline but it's inevitable really.

Interpreting anything positive about the gas price drop is just foolish.

Because Obama is already in office and he is the reason they're this low. Bush is no longer in office and cannot possibly be any part of the reason for the prices going down but was without a doubt the reason they went up in the first place.
