No, what Isiolia is talking about is when you first start killing them. The mamool DRGs are on timers just as PCs are. They have a cooldown timer on Call Wyvern. (I would assume 20 minutes just like a PC) Oftentimes the mamool are left alone when no one is meriting on them and their cooldown timer passes. A party comes along and starts killing them, kill the wyvern first and the mamool can summon another immediately, just like a PC DRG when their wyvern has been out a while and the cooldown timer has reset, because the mamool's cooldown timer is usually up.

Once they start repopping though you will never get two wyverns again unless you let them live long enough for the cooldown timer to reset.

I don't think that's right. Whenever I merit on them, each new Pikeman can summon a 2nd wyvern. And, the Pikeman has only been up for a minute or two. Usually, if you kill the wyvern first, a second wyvern will be called before the Pikeman is dead.

I personally have never seen that to be the case. They only did it when we first started fighting them.

They might have a lower cooldown time than a PC does with Call Wyvern, but like the BLM's here have said you have to depop them before they will pop another wyvern in a resonable amount of time. Otherwise they would always summon two and that is certainly not the case when BLM nuking their wyverns.

I suppose it would be pretty easy to find out though just have a BLM test it out on one. Kill the wyvern, if its timer is down it should summon another one right away like a BST mob does. Kill the second one and wait to see how long it takes to pop another one. My bet is on 20 minutes.

Unless you kill the wyvern first, or at least give the Pikeman enough time to call another one, you would never experience that.

I agree with you on that (I mentioned it in my first post). Which is why I asked what the most efficient way to depop these is.

I would try having a Salvage permit (or Captain badge) and running back into the ruins. As soon as you talk to the guy he should save you from aggro and shove you into the ruins.

and yes, the only way you get 2 wyverns from 1 pikeman is if he's been up for a while after calling his first wyvern and you kill the wyvern first.

Similar thing happens in Salvage and in some Assaults with DRG type Draguars. If it's less than 20 minutes in, you can kill wyvern first and he'll never re-call it. Longer than 20 minutes, he can call it again if you kill wyvern first.

How would that affect chains though? In the screenshots in the link above, it shows a chain 6. I don't think that would be possible with that method. Are the raptors different?

Go try it out. You're mistaken.

So, you're saying the method is to zone back in to the Alzadaal Undersea Ruins?

The raptors are different. They are like normal beastmaster mob pets. They repop 1 minute after having been killed as long as the master has not been engaged or aggroed.

Zoning into the ruins will end your chain. so that is not an option if you plan on getting chains out of them.

the zoning suggestion is the only plausible way I see to reset the DRG wyverns without waiting the 20 minutes.

With a WHM/NIN (or whatever sub) second char you could always pull the DRG Mamools with Flash, Repose, and temp log to depop them. Or something similarly ridiculous. Probably easier just to kill raptors though.

Chain #6 was from killing both wyverns, their two repops, and two raptors. I don't remember if I managed to get a #6 or not off just raptors or not.

Another way to reset the drg may be to pull/sleep it with a PLer, then log the PLer out/back in. It's way too much work for the outcome, but possible I'd say.

Zoning the DRGs is definitely the easiest way to respawn them, but it doesn't have to be you that zones them I guess.
