The 920 is $299.99 and the motherboards are about $250-400 depending on the performance level. The P6T Deluxe from ASUS would be good for you.

You will need DDR3 for the i7, which is about $200 for a 6GB tri-channel kit.

I'd also suggest not getting a GTX260. They run hot, have crap performance for the price and come with nvidia drivers The HD4870X2 is a beast and will best two GTX260's anyways.

Oh, and two 1TB drives in RAID 0 will produce faster transfer speeds (slightly lower access times) then the Velcoicrap.

i wont buy anything from ATI/AMD(explained why in posts above yours) so the 4870x2 is out of the question and every reveiw ive read says the eVGA GTX 260 core 216 superclocked(this is what iam getting not just the crappy normal 260) just single is better then the 4870x2 and iam getting 2 so twice as better =)

id have to spend about 400$ more(the 1 cheap and by cheap i mean 80$ more then my current pick board thats SLI certified i could find sucks when it comes to overclocking so id be looking at the 400-500$ boards minimum) to go with i7 so id have to get no monitor at all and go only 1 GPU to upgrade to it cuase iam not going past 2100$

You look like you're building an insane rig.. but here's some changes I'm gonna recommend:

ASUS Maximus II Formula LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - $260
If you plan to someday go with a second video card and you absolutely MUST have SLI, then stick with the board you picked out. But if you're looking to build for flat-out speed you really can't get much better than P45 these days. Plus this board just looks pretty damn cool. I think I might get one.. heh

    Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - $270
You're already going quad-core, so why not drop an extra 20 bucks for the lower-voltage 45nm CPU? And re: Nehalem/Core i7 I'd say wait on those for now 'cause the die process on them will change at some point to lower the cost. And they're new so everything around them is overpriced too.

    -=-
Everything else looks fine, though it's a real shame you won't go with a 4870x2 since it really kicks the GTX260's ass. I read your reason for not buying a ATI/AMD-based card, and I wonder what brand was on your card. Why does it matter - because the cardmaker is more likely the problem and not the chipmaker. I've owned both GeForce and Radeon cards at various points over the years and they're both fantastic. Likewise I've heard stories about both being horrible.

BTW If you get a expansion CPU cooler unit it will usually come with thermal compound, so you can knock that off your cost as well.

its better then the normal gtx260 yes and even the stock gtx 260 core 216 but every review shows the gtx 260 core 216 super clocked being the better card and i plan to get 2 of them right from the start and overclocking them both on top of the factory over clocks and a 3rd down the line witch is y i picked that MB so i can go tri sli when i can spare anouther 280$ for a 3rd card

and acculy i changed up what iam getting a little havent updated first post yet goin with q6600 over the q9300 from the reveiws its better for overclocking and its about 70$ cheaper

went with a different cpu so i could go with a 24" monitor over the 21.5"

ya and theres also going to be anouther socket relessed somtime in 09 so just 1 more reason not to be to quick to go with the i7 now

ive still got like 3 weeks to a month befor a move and order the parts(waiting till i move so it dosent get broken during the move) so its still a work in progress what iam ganna be getting but what iam sure about is the gtx 260's i picked.(i may go with the q9400 and go with a smaller monitor since i could always get anouther monitor down the line but idk right now ganna try and make a final list in the next week or so. iam ganna shop around a little see if i can find better deals on some of the stuff i picked as well try and get the cost down so maybe i can get both the better monitor and the better cpu^^)

I just briefly skimmed through thread, but did no one else mention that you can't use dual monitors with SLI?...

EDIT just looked it up and only topics i can find on it are 2 years old they havennt fixed the problem in 2 years?

just found some oct reviews that say the 180.XX drives support dual monitors^^

after reading threw them while limited its exactly what iam wanting it for basicly not to exted a game onto it rather to just play game on main and have second just for videos and firefox

Actually the more comparable CPU to the Q6600 in the 45nm process line is the Q8200, which has a lower out-of-box speed and smaller cache.

    http://www.bluegartr.com/forum/attac...1&d=1226689723

Also there aren't too many reviews for the 45nm Quads yet because they're brand spankin' new (like in the past two months or so) but if they're as good as the E8400 was compared to its equivelant 65nm version it'll be just fine. Personally I'd stick with the Q9300 - it's pretty much the same as the Q6600, but with a smaller die for better power management, a faster bus speed and out-of-box clock speed, and a slightly smaller cache.

Hmmm, that is kind of nifty, but is it actually enabled in the new drivers you can download from guru3d? Last I heard, Nvidia was crying because it was due to some hardware limitation, but apparently not?

I sold my sli mobo a year ago because of this.

GeForce Forceware 180.10 Vista 64-bit download from Guru3D.com

thats the 180.10 where it is definitly implemented

GeForce Forceware 180.43 Vista 64-bit download from Guru3D.com

A new driver from NVIDIA was just released, it's as beta though. The drivers have some very cool new options for PhysX, and multi-monitor GPU gaming. Obviously this driver has new Far Cry 2 optimizations harboured in them as well. Also this driver includes the PhysX 8.10.13 System Software.

i7 comes out this coming Monday. It brings a new socket (LGA1366) with it. There won't be a new socket from Intel for the consumer market for at least three years.

    page 5 guru3d reveiw

There is however a horrible rumor that yet another LAG socket will surface later in 2009, socket, LGA 1160 for mainstream processors with an expected arrival in 2009

If Intel even releases that, it's not for better CPUs, it's for cheaper ones. LGA1366 will be the socket to own.

ok fine it will be the better but its also about 400-500$ more then i wanted to spend between getting different ram a MB thats 200-300$ minimum more then iam getting now and 34$ more for the processor id have to get no monitor and use my lolcrt and only 1 GPU to get that so for now not getting it

i have looked into getting it but right now its just to much since its just coming out

prolly next year ill upgrade MB and processor to go with i7 and iam sure by then there will be a better processor for same price now and chaeper MBs that are good for over clocking

Welcome to technology. Shit you buy today is outdated tomorrow. Get used to it, and just buy what's best out now at the cheapest price you can.

The performance increases may or may not be worth it for you. However, to me, buying a LGA775 CPU, x GB of DDR2, a $150 motherboard now, and then buying a i7, new motherboard, new ram in 6 months seems stupid. You said you still have a month or two before you will buy anything, you should make your final choice then, not now. Shit changes so fast in this area that what is a good deal today probably won't be in 2-4 months.

Some of the choices sorta have me scratching my head.

780i motherboard is somewhat outdated. I would go with a X48/38 or even 790i motherboard.

I'm not very up-to-date with the new motherboard chipsets coming out for the i7 however. Or much to do with the i7 at all really. I need to start reading up on it.

Also the Q6600, while an amazing chip in terms of price/performance, especially when considering its overclocking potential, is starting to show its age as well.

I personally at this time would now go with the Q9400, Q9550, or Q9650 depending on funds.

ya i havent updated first post yet i made some changes last night to what iam getting.

desided to just say fuck it go over 2100$ goin with the Q9550 and OC it to 3.8-4.0

ganna update specs in a few mins to current choises

ok i looked into getting i7 agen today since newegg just put up all the i7 MB's and processors. and ya for now it is to much for me ill be looking at $2,500 price tag and thats after mail in rebates.

So just ganna have to go with my current pic's dont wanna wait 6+months till prices drop maybe in about a year ill upgrade processor, MB, and ram when prices drop if i feel the need but most likely ill just stick with whatever i end up getting now.
