1230 here. Apparently they're going to be adding a reward in possibly in WotLK, but its rumor at the moment.

It satisfies a sense of OCD and the titles/tabards/free mounts are awesome.
Finally it gives you something permanent to demonstrate you've cleared content once you've thrown all that gear away for upgrades.
Fun!
Edit: the other benefit is that it gives an incentive for people to run obsolete content. Which is actually pretty healthy for the gaming population in the long run, even if it offers little personal benefit.

Many people enjoy "completion". There's so much to do in the game that finally having a system to determine how much of the game you've completed is quite fun and interesting. I'm not big on grinding stuff but I do achievements when in the mood, I see the appeal of them and like the completion. Some of the stuff is interesting and hard to do (PvP achievements) and some of the stuff adds to the RP aspect of the game (it makes sense for someone really into the lore to travel and see every corner of the map right?)
I finally got to exploring Eastern Kingdoms last night and finished that. Sadly the only zones I have fully explored in Kalimdor is Thousand Needles and Moonglade, lol, so that's going to take a while. But plans for it later tonight as I want to drop mining asap after I mine in Northrend so exploring and doing some extra mining is a nice way to kill 2 birds with one stone (need ore to level BS). All that exploration will put me to around 2100 points overall, so I think I have 1920ish atm?

I'm at about 2045 on my warrior. Been trying to do the fishing ones lately, and finishing the exploring ones while fishing.
