Anyone have any suggestions? I have a WRT54G v8, and its a total piece of trash, hoping for something that's not going to have me lagging constantly on Live or WoW.

It's not so much about what router, more what router firmware you use. I'd suggest buying a buffalo router, and then flashing it with DD-WRT. You can even buy pre-flashed models, which is the main reason I'm suggesting this to you. If, for some reason, something bad does go wrong with your router, there's a good chance they'll understand your problems and be able to help, as Buffalo recently began supporting and acknowledging DD-WRT.
In terms of what model, there's a model that suits most applications, ranging from bog-standard 5 port wifi b/g models to the full "gaming" router with wireless draft n support. Any differences in software will be made up by flashing DD-WRT, so no matter what you buy you'll still get the same features as a top of the line model.
Edit: Just to add, the router I'm currently using is a WHR-HP-G54 with the most recent stable release of DD-WRT. Very satisfied with it.
Semi-hijack since my router died a few weeks back and so did the help thread. lol
I need to replace my router and hopefully not spend several hundred bucks(like the Buffalo listed above) all I need it to be able to do is not go apeshit when I stream videos from my PC to my 360 and PS3 and not DC me from XI while doing it. lol
Managed to brick my router flashing it with DD-WRT tonight. FUCK. HOW?
@Auspice: It depends whether you're streaming via wifi or plain ol' vanilla LAN. Many routers have trouble with streaming high quality video via wifi just because it wasn't built for that sort of data through put. I would definately advise draft-n for these purposes if wifi is a must, however it will never stand up to the speed of a few hundred yards of CAT-5. If you're not streaming over wifi then yes, the above router will be able to handle video streaming and video gaming at the same time, I used to stream videos to my television to watch whilst at HNM camps.
@thestalkmore, I would suggest reading the wiki, there are many possible fixes to your problem. It could be something as simple as you missed a step and therefore are always booting the router into a form of recovery mode, which allows you to flash the router completely (this is the case for a few routers, including to a degree the buffalo mentioned) or it could just be your router might not have been compatible and you could be S.O.L...
friend was having same issue with the WRT54G dc'ing ffxi when xbox or ps3 came onto the network. swapping over to DD-WRT fixed the issues, altho the v7 and v8 are kinda tricky to install.

requires 2 flashing, 1st vxworkskiller then you flash to the proper DD-WRT version (micro is only supported by these two routers.
I use a wired connection for my data streaming(usually). The PS3 and 360 to my knowledge don't support N so G is as fast as I can get anyway out of wireless. I usually have my PS3 wired and my 360 wireless since the PS3 absolutely sucks the shit out of my connection(at least it seems that way) when it's wireless. Oh yeah, that and I'm convinced it broke my router since simply turning on my PS3 sends the router into a spasm of constant reboots.
P.S. Again sorry for the derail; should I just bump my thread from last week? >_>
I went ahead with a friends suggestion and bought at D-Link DIR-615. Working quite well, and actually solved the latency issues. Wireless N on it as well, my mac is happy with it to say the least, however vista is being a bitch with it on my friends laptop.
Assuming you don't care about DD-WRT I think D-link is the best consumer models on the market right now so you at least didn't make a bad choice.
Hardware wise, the WRT54G series are some of the best bang for the buck routers out there. (I've got a v2)
semi-hijack, sorry. Does anyone have any experience in both DD-WRT and Tomato? What do you prefer? ups and downs?
OK! DO NOT FLASH YOUR ROUTER WITH DD-WRT WHILE USING FIREFOX. YOU WILL BRICK THAT SHIT. New router from Linksys (convinced them it wasn't my fault) and am now happily running DD-WRT on my Linksys WRT160N.
Linksys only works with IE anyways. At least with the firmware I have.
