I think it will be awesome and I am usually a pessimist. Can't wait.

It's JJ Abrams. It has lame imitation written all over it.
According to IMDB Leonard Nimoy will be returning as "Old Spock"
I don't agree with the appearance of the cast, but I won't make strong judgements yet. Simon Pegg is the fucking man, and I'm a sucker for his badassery.
I'm just surprised at how young the crew looks, especially the actor portraying Kirk.
Thinking i'm gonna have to agree with bingbong. I hope I'm wrong, but this looks like it may be ok action/scifi filler, but star trek wise I'm getting many phail vibes on this one.
And I think Septimus won the thread.
T'pol isn't that hot, sorry. I don't know why everyone ogles over her. That is just my opinion though.
Why is every remake getting the "pretty white people" treatment. I can't even take this movie seriously with the cast lol.
It's some good makeup to take you from:

I think that is one of the things that made Enterprise fail so hard. They wanted to get "back to the basics", but things like the Holodeck and Replicators became too ingrained into the mythos. Seriously, who fucking doesn't want a Holodeck?
The major reason that it failed so hard was because it was Star Trek for frat boys. "Hey, let's cast a hot chick to be a Vulcan and put her in really tight-fitting outfits that Vulcans would never wear! Oooo! And lots of sexual tension for her! It'll be great!" And thusly, failure was born.
Because people are dumb enough to go see them. And when you said that, the recasting did remind me of the MadTV sketch: Pretty White Kids with Problems.
As much as I would love to see them continue with a Voyager movie, I'm kind of glad they are retelling the story, because the last 2 TNG movies were terrible, honestly outside of First Contact and the first 4 I'm not that fond of them period. Enterprise/Nemesis were god awful and I attribute that to Rick Berman who seemed intent to run the franchise into the fucking ground. Handing it over to JJ Abrams is a great move, since he is a fresh face to the franchise and is a decent writer/director, and as much as it may turn off the viewer-base, the failure of Nemesis kind of shows they needed to move into this direction, much like Die Another Day pushed the bond people to restart that, they need to get new people into it as older people lose interest or get pissed at the direction the franchise has gone.
Enterprise's problem IMO was that it essentially was pissing all over the previous mythos established by Roddenberry and the first series, while relying too heavily on stupid time travel plots. I think the reason they got a hot chick as vulcan was just to try to repeat the success of Seven of Nine.. How is this getting the pretty white people remake? Outside of Simon Pegg not being as physically thick as the old Scotty, the rest of the cast seems a good fit for their roles.
Haha, is that the dude from Harold & Kumar in those screen caps?

watch he's gonna slice the head open and take his power
Maybe I'm wrong here, but I remember hearing somewhere that Andromeda(which had the "Created by Gene Rodenberry" credit) was originally supposed to be a Star Trek series. The story would've been a jump forward in time from Voyager and taken place in a time after the fall of the federation( I think at the hands of the Borg), during which a band of humans would search out other surviving species and attempt to reestablish the Federation.
This seems like a much more interesting story to me than how the Federation wasn't founded in the first place(Enterprise) or going back to TOS.
while i agree that holodeck and replicators are pretty involved with every series of trek up until enterprise those alone dont make the show or any particular ep
and if you are that butthurt about tpol being in a full body suit saying thats one of the major downfalls of the series how about troi in her full body suit or seven in hers or heck even crusher in her full body suit -every- female actor outside of janeway has had a fucking super skin tight suit on at one point or another across multiple eps, look at jadzia and kira in ds9 these could all be described as the frat boy treks if you wanna get QQ about it
the real reason enterprise failed was due to Paramount/UPN not being able to bring back all the original fan base from TNG/DS9 and even TOS. un-original characters outside of the doctor and yes tpol (there's only so many times you can go back to travis' freighter days or trip's horseback riding cowbuy antics). the Xindi season also cursed the show because it was too high of an expectation that just wasn't executed well because it wasnt thought out enought. i think if they went for a style more like season 4 for season 3 then did a full season arc for season 4 they would have had a fuckton more staying power. season 1 and 2 were great 3 had some good ideas but killed the show and 4 was also amazing.
the budget was pulled near the end of s3 and you can see it in the sets and some of the CGI in s4. it's really sad that enterprise didn't make it to s7 there was so much that we didn't get to see and so much that i was looking forward to seeing.
enterprise didn't fail it was paramount that failed enterprise by pulling out too soon. think about what we would have missed if DS9 stopped at s4.
imo enterprise destroys voyager and im a big voyager fine not to mention a HUGE trek fan overall so mebbe thats why im so attached to enterprise so much potential was to be had
