    Video editing help

Any suggestions / tools? Trying to reduce the porn footprint on my hard drives by editing it out the ugly parts. I've tried and failed in the past with this, not really sure how to

Have you already tried VirtualDub? It's very easy to use, and free.

    Download VDub: Welcome to virtualdub.org! - virtualdub.org

    Install XviD: Xvid.org: Downloads

Some filters, in case you're seeking any: Filters for Avisynth and VirtualDub

When you open the file in VirtualDub, click "Video," "Compression," select XviD, then "Configure." Change the number next to "Target Quantizer" to something like 5 if you want decent quality without a huge file size. As for editing out parts, just highlight it at the bottom (using the Frame Select buttons, they look like two black arrows pointing left and right) and hit DEL.

Wow thanks man. I never knew it could be that easy...

Would it allow me to do some post-prod on it? i.e. to add some text/graphics/music etc... or should I rely on Windows Movie Maker for that (i only want simple stuff).

Probably, somehow, but I couldn't tell you. I've only ever used it for doing hard edits of removing footage, and/or for re-encoding files for job-related purposes.

Well, sometimes for fun, but mostly job-related.

I will suggest adobe premier pro for this part, it is fairly simple and ease to use for a beginner, if compare to after effects.
