What is my TV's native resolution.

    I'm kinda confused.

I have this TV in my game room and I'm thinking of hooking my PC up to it. (It has DVI out).

Samsung TX P3064W - 30" CRT TV specs and Direct View TVs (CRT) specifications - CNET Reviews

What resolution would my PC run best at through the TV so its not blurry and stuff?

It's 1080i, which means 1920x1080. Try that and the following and see what looks best, it sometimes varies by TV:

    1440x1050
    1680x1050

Some CRT TVs advertise as being 1080i but really arent... if the above resolutions don't work for you, try 1366x768.

CRTs don't have a "native" resolution. That's something LCDs have because they're a fixed number of pixels high/wide. A CRT has an electron gun that can adjust.

Typically the capabilities of a CRT monitor degrade as they go higher resolution. IE, they go interlaced, have lower refresh rates, etc.

The manual for your TV states that the DVI port is not compatible with PC video. Dunno if that's entirely true or not, but it's in there ( http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...00Eng_0422.pdf )

Given that it only does 480P, I would start out with something lower. Could be that it supports other modes than 480p, 480i, and 1080i, but it may not, given that they didn't seem to design it to support PCs and the like.

another quick question, if my TV has DVI input with audio in, what purpose is it used for if you can't use it with the video from a computer? I was skimming through the manual and coulden't find a reason why, or what its for?

The predecessor to our current "HDTV" standards sometimes used a DVI connector instead of Y/Pb/Pr to feed a digital signal directly to the tv for the best picture quality; that's my guess, and looking at the manual it's not too far off.

Ah I see, so I guess its completely useless. I guess I'll stick to component only on this TV then.

    Thanks again.

It says 800 horizontal lines, so I would suggest running at 720i.

Sorry to bump this thread, but last night I got bored lol.

I decided (even against the manuals ability to say no) to hook my PC's DVI-OUT to this HDTV's DVI-IN.

In my amazement, it worked. I can see the computer through the television lol. By default windows set the resolution to 1280x720 resolution (I think).

A good friend of mine works for toshiba and said that since it was an older TV, back in the day DVI was commonly not as used for an input source so in the manual thats the reason why it says ("only use for pictures, etc. don't use with a pc's video out").

edit: Also he mentioned older video cards didn't have HDCP plus other things which is why it woulden't of worked, newer cards do he said.

The overall image on the screen is very blurry. I tried every resolution possible but the TV still displays it very blurry (even with the Tv's settings to max sharpness).

But when I turned on Dead Space in fullscreen. It auto-set to 1280x720 and looks fucking gorgeous. It looks better than my xbox 360 version (I don't care what anyone says, even though its a port it looks so much better/fps much smoother than 360 lol). There was literally no blur issues or focus problems once in game.

Anyone know what could be causing this? I'm pretty sure its a setting in the ATi CCC but I'm not 100% cool with messing around with the settings in there for the display override =/.

    Thanks

edit: something in here perhaps? (HDTV isin't currently hooked up atm)

Also I'm scared to mess with anything in this tab since it warned I could damage the TV if I select something that is not made for the TV to handle.

720p50, the bolded number is the fps. Match it to your TV's refresh rate.

There are a bunch of things you can do to fix it, but I don't remember all of them because I don't have an HDTV.

One thing you could try is turning on Cleartype. Right-click on the desktop, properties, then go over a few tabs until you see an "effects" button down there. Click on it and check the box and select "cleartype". OK yourself out of there and it should help a bit.

I'm guessing I would select 720p/60? since my tv is NTSC? I think 50 is for PAL tv's?
