    How do you deal?

    Hi everyone,

    I'm wondering how you guys deal with your anger and/or depression. Most people here I would guess play videogames so I thought maybe someone here would have some good suggestions that I could apply irl.

    It doesn't have to be vg-related. I've heard some people hit the gym and it helps them relieve stress and relax. I've been doing that for a few months aggressively and it has helped to some degree.

    Right now I feel angry and I am powerless to change what I want to change, so I need ways to calm down and not think about doing stupid things I will no doubt regret.

    This one's going to get ate up, but I'll be serious, especially because I deal with stresspression.

    - Physical activity. Run, lift weights, martial arts(as the art, not go beat your girl)
    - Write it out.
    - Sing/Play instrument(props to Tricen)
    - Pray if applicable
    - Talk to someone you can trust.
    - Go to sleep, wake up, realize it probably wasn't as bad as you thought it was at the time, and go post on random threads on BG(aka what I'm doing)

    I usually will do something strenuous (work, grudge fuck) or literally take a deep breath, take a step back and actually put what issue is bothering me into perspective and think about where it really stands in the grand scheme of things. It sounds cliche but it really does work.

    I always close my eyes, detach myself from the situation and realize that the issue is never as big as I make it seem. Give it a shot.

    I was about to tell you to start clockwise on the table while not putting too much spin on the wrist... then I realized you were seriously wanting advice.

    I deal with depression 3 ways:

    1) I write a song or talk about it
    2) I exercise or do something physical like punching bags
    3) Sex

    The most important thing to do is to have someone to talk to about it and let them know that you are depressed. Sometimes we all go through phases where we're down and we need someone to vent on.

    Anger-wise, you need to learn some self-control. Then redirect that anger into something more constructive.

    I usually figure out what is stressing me, then figure out why it is bothering me, and how to resolve it.

    Why not explain why you're angry to us and perhaps we can help. And you'll feel better by venting here. I'm sure people here won't rip into you providing it's somewhat sensible/realistic and not stupid...

    Not to mention that if it is over a chick, have your pics ready. We cant gauge the severity and shell out advice unless we can see if she is worth the trouble or not.

    BG relationship management counseling is serious business.

    But in all seriousness, Stig is right, if it is relatively genuine you can often find genuine help and some good advice.

    I agree with this & QuePsiXI's suggestions.

    Venting might be one of the better ways since you can get opinions from others that may change the way you see the situation or you may receive helpful info on how to deal with it. Just know that you'll most likely also get smart ass responses. Some will make you laugh ("stick it in her pooper"), but others can piss you off more ("go kill yourself", etc.)

    I get angry at work when shit dosen't work for long periods of time, which happens alot, and usually don't have the luxury of going for a run until after work. I make sure that I have something soft avaliable to punch, like one of those memory foam pillows or the back of a chair. It honestly helps. If I'm about to let out a stream of curses and people still haven't gone home yet, I actually write them down on my notepad.

    I could tell you stories of people that have broken feet due to kicking desks, so I don't reccommend that.

    What's got me going crazy is that my ex just told me she's seeing someone. I'm not going to post any pictures out of respect for her privacy, and also because if she was involved in a horrible accident where she'd be horribly disfigured and had to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair, I'd still want to be with her.

    I do a LOT of walking so that's always my time for sorting out my thoughts and thinking clearly about stuff that concerns/bothers/angers me. If I'm out I usually bring a small pad & pen with me as well, in case I think of something profound or that needs to be done.

    Playing online games works for me as well, but that's more to forget or ignore something.

    Nooooo. Snap yourself out of it, that's an instant red flag (for her and you). She's certainly not respecting you, at all (from this short story) so ... you shouldn't respect her (much more) either.

    So post a pic, she won't know about this forum, we can then work together more pleasantly.

    Besides, it's only your ex. So that means it's already over, right? Pursing someone with a narrow mind can only end in disaster usually. Best to widen your options and spread out.

    I know how you feel, basically the best way to deal with something like this imo is to have no down time, go go go go go go fill your off time with something where you are not sitting down, and not thinking... this is a different depression than what most people are thinking about, this is one you DONT want to think about because if you do it will only make it worse...

    - do something productive everyday. shit that you need to get done e.g. clearing your closet, renewing your plates, signing up for classes early. (whatever applies to you personally.)
    - i play video games. gets your mind off things for awhile. tides your over for a few hours when you arent especially motivated. zombie ones are preferable.
    - talk to someone, find a close friend that you relate to.
    - working out is a great way to feel better about yourself. highly recommend this.
