Hey guys!
I stopped playing WoW about a year ago, since I don't have time to do the hardcore raiding anymore. is WoTLK worth it for just casual play? I know it just came up, but I would like to hear some early impressions!!!
Thanks, DH
Hey guys!

From what I hear its pretty casual from the start, but I would like to know as well since I am also interested in picking it back up.
There are guilds that don't do hardcore raiding and there are some that do. I know towards the end of TBC(start of wotlk) everything was being pugged. But I do think wotlk can be casual, you don't really HAVE to raid at all. You can pvp at 80 too instead of raiding for fun, its not like raiding is the only thing to do to have fun.
It should be pretty nice for you to start back up. The gear they give you is even better than the TBC greens and there's always going to be a 10-man version of an instance if you don't want to join a really big pro-raiding guild.
New battleground/outdoor PvP as well as a ton of new instances, plus the scenery looks better than ever. Blizzard really did a great job making Northrend.
Not as good gear as the 25 mans. Its like heroic vs non heroic. Also don't pick up a cookie cutter dps class, I kind of wish I didnt.
Do you have a level 70 character? It's worth it. Do you have a level 55 character and are interested in Death Knight? it's worth it.
Are you below 55 and have no interest in Death Knight? Then chances are you aren't going to love WoW again. The quests are pretty neat and the art/music are stunning, but if TBC didn't win you over then WotLK is unlikely to do so. Anectodal reports say the endgame is better paced than it was in TBC (i.e. no Vash/Kael bullshit where you kill them once and never again).
If you are getting back into it, get a friend to sponsor you through the Recruit-A-Friend program. The bonuses are huge--particularly, with a 3x exp bonus for quests and kills, you easily can go 0-60 in under a week.
I kinda wanna get back to play a bit too, just because I liked the Arthas lore a lot.
Although I'm sort of discouraged by the idea of 80% of the server playing the same class that I will be.
its so tempting to start back up againbut i dunno...
how bad is the mage population? im sure it varies on different servers but i remember me being one of the few mages on (in my guild at least) on mal'ganis.
And how difficult are the new instances? cuz i dont have any t5 or t6 gear
and will ppl still do raids like kara, gruuls, hyjal, etc? or did wotlk make the gear from there obselete like BC did w/ regular epics?
Old raids will be obsolete again, all the gear will be replaced by questable stuff on the way to 80 (though iLv suggests that most BT/Hyjal gear won't be replaced until 78-80, iirc).
Hopefully I can find a fun group of people who'll run the old raids with me sometime for the hell of it lol, can't be that hard when you outlevel them so much and would be fun to get the achievements for it and just see what its like :3
If you like the idea of achievements (i.e. if you are a completionist or just like to do non-loot-centric activities), you might be interested in wotlk. Also, if you enjoy lore, wotlk quests (so far as I can tell) have a LOT of it so that might be worth at least resubbing to experience that.
yeah i am really into lore(being and ffxi player haha)
and the Arthas storyline interested me in WC3 (although i never actually played the game)
but its nice to know i really dont need to do BC raids to be strong or w/e
i might actually go pick it up today![]()
People will probably still farm certain instances, and T6 raiding guilds with Kil'Jaeden/Illidan on farm will still kill them since the gear they drop is good till level 80. But once the server population at large reaches 80 (which is only a week away), then the only things people will want are legendaries and achievements from old content, as Naxx/Malygos gear will quickly eclipse everything else.
They haven't even released all the raids yet for LK have they? Like there's no accessible raid in Icecrown yet, just Naxx?
Naxx and Eye of Eternity are all that were open during beta, so I'm assuming they're all that is open for launch. That is still a lot of content though, and every dungeon out of the gates has a heroic mode ripe for the harvest of badges/epics.
Edit: Chamber of Aspects is also in, AFAIK.
Only 3 raids are open I know of...
naxx, obsidion order, eye of eternity...
if you get a chance, look at the room below the dragonshrine.. it has like 4-6 portals... all of which can be 10-25man raids.
I'm sure they plan to add more and harder ones at that in the future.
Btw... one that thing soorta makes me sad is...
Lvling up.. all my za/BT/hyjal/pvp epics got replaced while lvling ... before Lv 79... but my KARA bow didn't get replacement till lv 78ish ;/
