Mijin and you!

So today i was in dynamis and while fighting through the perils that it is i've realize one thing; people really are dumb. Don't get me wrong i've realize this for a long time, but why don't people get that casting Barfira will in no way reduce the amount of damage you take from Mijin. I've been hearing for years that it does but its not true. Mijin is a non-elemental attack. Its damage is solely based on you or a mob's current HP. So my question is; does anyone else hear this on a consistent basis and why do people still make this assumption beyond the explosion animation.

Most WHMs I know drag around a briault for barspells >_>

Go fight Ifrit Prime as NIN, use Katon then Mijin on it.

Your WHMs obviously don't fight things like Tiamat. Brilaut is cheap and a really nice piece for magic spamming mobs.

I'm pretty sure the Briault only adds mdef to the element of the barspell. Meaning, if Mijin is non-elemental, fire-specific magic defense is still useless.

That's true as well. The majority of the people in the LS i do dynamis with don't do HNMs just sky/sea/znm. As for myself i don't do anything endgame really anymore. HNMs have lost their charm and considering everything has a price there is no reason to really go ahead and join a LS on leviathan. Everything gets sold off to the highest bidder.

Honestly, i completely forgot the magic defense enhancement trait from the blessed briault, but can affirm that I almost never see any WHMs macro it in for Bar spells.

"Stack" yes and no - both work at same time but at different ends of the resist. Pontaloons enhance the chance you halfresist whole cleric briault lessens the damage directly.

Full Merited Barspell + Blessed Briault = 15 Extra MDB for the corresponding Element


Ask a PLD about their Magic dmg down and MDB set if they have one and ask them what they would kill for 15 free MDB :D

Yes. WHMs should be using Blessed Briault, Cleric's Pantaloons and any other piece that has +enhancing on it for Barspells.

Last Dynamis Beaucedine we did, a NIN killed the boss, while it had magic shield up, with Mijin...so methinks that there's no real magic defense that's gonna help with it.

Just wanted to note that while pumping enhancing magic will increase your resist rate, it won't add to your overall mdb. So if you are just casting a bar spell for the MDB, adding extra enhancing won't make it any more potent (so to speak).

The elemental resistance of a barspell is directly proportional to the Enhancing Skill, or isn't that what you're saying?

And prove absolutely nothing whatsoever, as mob "2 hour" abilities are not the same as ours; they are different abilities that have the same name. Most obviously, our Mijin Gakure kills the user and isn't area effect; theirs doesn't and is. More subtly, mob Benediction doesn't remove status anomalies. Go fight a Dynamis WHM, silence it, beat on it until it uses "Benediction", then try to silence it again. Watch the "has no effect" message in wonder and awe.

Mijin or no, every whm should have the briault on them. They cost what, 40k? And theyre easily macrod in. Its not like you have to use it over anything else (for more than a half second anyway).

I too see whms not using it, but I see just as many better whms using it.

Eh, this is more of a leftover from when Benediction didn't remove status effects, like how DRG mobs still use Call Wyvern as their 2 hour.

Damage from Mijin Gakure is reduced by "-Magic Damage Taken gear", "Shell", and the Paladin Job Ability "Fealty, but not by "Magic Defense Bonus".

Costs 12 MP and maybe a second to cast Barfira. I'll keep casting it. Maybe you should bitch about the lazy WHMs that don't do shit to keep you vertical as opposed to the ones that try everything possible.
