toying with Holy these days, I'm a true newbie so a few questions came up:

- to Haste or not to Haste? While gemming/enchanting, should I prioritize Haste over something else until i reach some cap value? much as melees do with Hit Rating maybe?

Haste is a popular stat to debate. Personally, I'm a big pvp'er, and the only time I really have trouble with healing in raids is when I just don't have the gcd's to get the job done. I can't remember the last time someone died on me when I wasn't stuck in gcd, therefore I will continue to prioritize haste for more gcd's until shit starts dying for other reasons.

However, I gem raw INT other than meta requirements cuz it's just too damn good point for point not to. There's rarely a similar decision as far as the gear itself is concerned of int vs anything else.

- since Pally lacks AoE tools (except Beacon), am I supposed or expected to handle other parties dpes during raid? Or should I focus on my party members, maybe putting Beacon+Focus on MT?

Quite simply: yes. As crazy as it sounds, flash of light's absurd efficiency makes paladin arguably the best raid healer when actual aoe heals are not "required." Sure, literally any other healer can out-burst us as far as aoe healing goes. However, nobody can put anywhere remotely near the level of total healing done to a raid over *a long period of* time.

I'll put it this way, I sure as hell haven't seen any other class say something like "so I was testing out such and such spamming x heal until I was oom, after 20 minutes this is what I found." lol

- is there any case where i should use Hand of Protection? at first i thought "tank!" but since it prevents any action, it doesnt seem fit.

Never on a tank, the boss will continue to target him... until it actually tries to attack him. The moment a mob sees immune, it switches targets instantly. So, yeah, don't bop tanks unless there's another one taunting and you're doing it to clear a debuff or something lol.

Mostly in pve it's used for letting a mage go nuts with aoe for a minute without concerns about the mobs owning him, also feel free to use it if a dps war that doesn't die instantly, or a ranged person or whatever pulls hate. It'll save their asses and give them a sec to use threat reducing stuff.



As far as raid healing, there are 2 main mods people use. My personal selection is called healbot:

Basically, it gives you a box with health bars for the entire raid. You can customize it extensively, from the shape of the bars to the color of the bars to fading in and out based on distance, damn near everything you can think of (that a mod is allowed to do these days).

You then set it up so that clicking the bars in different ways will do different things.

The way I, personally have mine set up is this:

left click a person's bar - flash of light that target

right click - holy light

alt + left click - cleanse

alt + right click - freedom

ctrl + left click - target that person

ctrl + right click - bop

ctrl + middle button - salv

shift + left click - holy shock

shift + right click - sacrifice

middle button - purify (for stuff like cleansing a wound poison on someone that has unstable affliction on them)


It also does things like turning a person's bar black when they get a debuff I can cleanse, and showing beacon/shield buffs real small on the bar of whoever they're on, making it waaay easier to keep track of. And while it can't show most debuffs specifically due to the raw quantity, it does even pop up little icons like the beacon/shield ones on people for poly and fear.

It's every bit as useful in tanking and dps'ing as well, as it allows you to cleanse/bop etc when tanking or do the same and even healing while dpsing without having to actually switch targets.

The other popular option is Grid:

As far as I know, it's basically the exact same thing but not as customizable.

from what i am reading all around, everyone keeps saying Holy Light is the absurd one right now and that's why they suggest to spam it together with Holy Shock. Unless I got it all wrong...

Anyway went throught a lot of heroics and my worst issues are:
- in Nexus, Crystallize cleanse, which order should I go? tank > me > others? I noticed because of GCD i waste a lot of time cleansing all and i still need to heal the tank..

- in AN, same issue when a lot of people get poisoned together.. it takes like 4-5 sec to cleanse all and i still need to heal around.. really was quite a mess.

- in UK, the boss spelllock cripples all of my healing and I dont have anything like an HoT to cast before that so.. what to do? tried my best and spammed heals on tank in between, but it sounded a little messy...

For things that you end up cleansing a lot, try to bring a DPS that can take them off too, and make sure they help on the important fights. It makes it a LOT easier.

As for Utgarde Keep, I'm not sure what people usually do but I've found this very very difficult with just 1 healer. As Ret I usually sit behind the pillar most of the second half of the fight and heal the healer and the ranged DPS, while the healer heals the tank. I run up and hit the boss with Judges and other quick moves and back out every few seconds, but for the most part I'm out of Line of Sight behind the pillar so none of his moves hit me at all.

It's a spell lock, so as long as you aren't casting when he performs the shout it shouldn't affect you. Make sure you have some kind of enemy cast bars up or some way to know when its casting (some iterations of raid boss warnings will watch 5 mans too), and just cancel-cast when he shouts.

Right. It's basically just an AoE kick; if you stop casting when you see him readying it, you're golden.

I'm not trying to deny the importance of add-ons, it's just that I enjoy to keep the game HUD as it was meant (i'm a vintage fan). with the standard blizzard interface it's quite impossible to know what is happening in other parties

Naw, I don't think so.

I tried raid UI things and it confuse/annoyed the shit out of me. I keep em the same and I really don't have any difficulty...

In 10mans I have my party window and then the 2nd group window. I use my mouse more than the average WoWer though, I think. Even in 25-mans, I just have all the groups on my screen... yeah, I can only see half the screen really good but as a healer, it really doesn't matter that much.

The only time I really spam Holy Light is in those crazy oh shit moments. Otherwise, I spam Flash of Light/Holy Shock. I use holy shock when I see someone who has about 1/3rd life. If it crits, I would either instant FoL em or click on the next person who's at 3/4ths life and hit em.

In Nexus I usually cleanse me > tank > others. Once she's getting close to enrage I bubble so I don't haveta worry about myself and I can just heal. Although, depending on your gear or the tanks gear you might want to switch the priorities. Like for newbie tanks, I'd tag them first instead of myself. And if there's a shadowpriest in the group you can always ask them to Mass Dispel to help things out.

I havn't done AN because I... fucking hate HATE that bloodty instance(OK sucks ass too) but in OK with the poison... I... just... deal with the mess. I really don't know what you can do lol. If it's the same poison as it is in OK which increases ability costs, I cleanse myself and then the tank and not really worry about the DPS until afterwards. I refuse to do those instances just because they're so brutal.... and I hate getting told I'm a shitty healer when the fucker dumbass DPS stay in the Flame Strikes or the tank doesn't move or know how to play the damn game.

as for UK, you kinda just gotta guess your timing. He should go down pretty fast so try to hit the tank with Holy Shocks/instant FoL's. If you dodge an interrupt, then you should be able to use mabye... 3 Holy Lights until he shouts again.

Final boss is still a pain.. during the 3rd submerge phase there were like 2+ venomsplitters spraying poisons all over every damn second..Had a shaman with me but I really dont know how to handle that without a cleanse help.

In UK, you can LoS the shout using the pillars. Get DBM, it will give you a nice casting warning, plenty of time to step out of LoS.

you should be fine as healing with whatcha got but in regards to gemming
I'd take stam gem off chest
I'd replace the +crit gem in your belt with either SP or INT
for your pants I'd probably go with SP and stam instead of spirit
and then I'd do icewalker for your boots instead of the mp5 one

if you're the only paladin in the raid, you might want to respec for kings also. buuutt it might not be totally necessary.

Hrm, like, all the icons on the mod where you actually click to buff, or the screen where you set up who's doing which buffs?

had a very similiar problem : when you open settings window (right click on the PP dot), check that "Enable" is turned on. It's near the bottom and once you check it, all class boxes should appear, give you are grouped with any class, raid or party.

Mace + Shield (healer weap have quite a terrible dps tho), DPS Weap + Shield (at least I can use that shield bash attack) or 2Hander?

I use sword and board for grinding dailies using ret aura, SS will pretty much negate 80% of the damage you take, Judgement & Holy shock spam for dps, using SotR whenever. i also use Blessing of Judgement & Seal of Light, so i always have some form of self healing going on, and with divine plea very rarely go below 10k mana.

i actually find it easier to solo mobs as holy pally than ret.
