    ...17?

I haven't seen a BoA weapon scaled down so I don't know how well it does scale, if it's that huge a difference then I'd agree, I just assumed it would be 'equal' to items at that level and its benefit was just the flexibility to reuse it across classes.

It's "equal" to essentially the best possible ilvl item of each level. However how often do you go and find the best weapon for the level? Most quests give only green items and aside from being able to do 5x DK instances you won't be going in there (and of course having to compete with 4 other DK's for weapons lulz). And still in another level the BoA weapon upgrades and you'd need to find another weapon somewhere else. Add in the fact that the two-handed axe is itemized almost perfectly for a DK afaik (str/stam/crit, 3.8 speed) and it's going to be the best in slot almost every level without having to go through the work of finding the new best weapon. Also the items get a huge boost at the x8's so at 58 they all scale to Outland quality blues and at 68 scale to Northrend quality blues instantly.

    Level 63 BoA axe stats:
    73.0 DPS
    str+28
    stam+42
    Crit rating +28

Speed is 3.8 (slow is almost always better for melee dps). Looking at wowhead unless you're magical and can grind Sporeggar rep to exalted and do a group quest you cannot get better until Ring of Blood, which gives the axe two levels of growth.

But yeah I'm very happy with these BoA items, they make running more heroics more fun since I get something out of them still.

For Prot pally, Emblem of Valor NPC, I see the def rating ring looks very awesome, I'm considering though, should I get the backpiece 1st or the ring? ring is 40 Valor

Rings and capes are only 25 Emblems of Valor according to Wowhead

As for which to get, the ring strikes me as a better item standing alone, but it'd probably depend on what you're wearing now.

Get the ring. It is currently one of the two best rings in game at the moment and thus harder to replace. I'd prefer a couple of the naxx25 capes (one of which drops off of multiple bosses and dropped 3 times this week) to spending the emblems on it.

WTF for tanking? Noooo.... valor badge ring is terrible terrible terrible choice.

Expertise has its place-- and it's not on spots where you give up 30-50+ dodge/parry to get it.

Look at the tanking ring choices, there's not many and only the Sand Worn band is clearly better, which is unique. The ring is a load of defense, which is great for allowing more gemming towards other stats.

Rings - Items - World of Warcraft

Every one of those rings clowns the badge ring as long as you have the def covered.

Maly 10 man epic and heroic HoS blue rings are just as good as it, too. And arguably the UK blue as well.

Key part of that being "as long as you have the def covered". I'm using the defense meta with a few blue sockets as def/stam and if I went from badge ring to Gatekeeper (the other ilvl 213 ring) I'd be under the defense cap.

I wouldn't consider deflection band better. It has less stam and the extra defense from the badge ring is roughly 0.6% avoidance across 3 diminishing returns compared to the 0.9% dodge against the rating with the higher rate of diminishing return. And 0.2% block from the badge ring as well. Signet of the Accord fits in here too, except it's only 0.7% parry vs the 0.6% for all 3 DR's from badge.

Keystone Great Ring is same as Gatekeeper, except it clearly has less str/stam/hit and thus is far less threat while not helping keep uncrittable.

Titanium earthguard ring is actually pretty damn nice, I'll agree it could be comparable. I'll complain about its rarity as I have yet to find a JC with the pattern.

Just because hit and expertise are not the most ideal stats doesn't mean they don't help. While I don't emphasize them well, the huge block of defense from the badge ring lets me use trinkets other than a pure +defense one which makes up for some of the item points spent on hit/expertise. The only ring I'd consider using over it (and Sand Worn band...which I consider better and is my other ring) is the JC made one.

Dodge/parry/miss from defense is affected by DR as well. AFAIK the math on when defense becomes better hasn't been figured out yet, and it's going to vary based on your other gear regardless.

It is a nice chunk of def if you're struggling to stay capped, but I wouldn't spend the badges on it if you're good on def.

The boots are best in slot, I don't see why someone should get anything else first unless they're having to use something really bad in a different spot and have good boots.

If you have the patience, save up for the Kryzoc Ground Stomper's, probably one of the best tanking boots in game, if not the best.

took a bit of farming, but I got the titanium ring made, socketed with +24stam. and I'll be saving up for those boots.

The ring is actually quite good, im using it along with the epic ring drop from DTK, it does more for me than any other rings i have as a tank.

side question, is the red sword of courage in the drop list for King Y? cause i swear the only epic he has is those crappy leather gloves.

I ran it every day until I got slayer of the lifeless, am still kind of trying to get it just for options in gear.

In my experience he drops the belt 100% of the time, unless I'm there as holy with a tank that needs the sword, in which case the sword becomes 100% drop rate.
