    quick question:
on Prot FAQs i found around the intraweb the suggested seal is quite always Seal of Corruption, but as I started tanking I found myself having terrible mana issues that force me to go Seal of Wisdom almost full time...

    am I doing something wrong?

Judge wisdom, and probably get more defense or dodge rating to allow mana back from BoS.

Is judgment of wisdom even worth it any more? 2% base mana. Meh.

How long does the Judgment last? I can't find details on it.

If it's 10 sec like the cooldown and the ICD on the proc is still the same then yeah it's worthless, 5% base for (at best) 4% return, nothx

I can't imagine they'd be that stupid though so if it lasts a decent amount of time and you're using a fast weapon you should see it proc often enough to overcome the cost; plus this is still assuming the 4 sec ICD, which may have also been changed in light of the change to the ability.

It lasts 20 seconds if I remember right. Recast between 8 and 10 seconds, depending on talents.

Personally I've been doing the same thing as Tomino and have been using Seal of Wisdom when I'm out questing. I usually only fight 1-4 things at once when I'm questing. When I'm farming for meat or something then I get enough MP from blessing of sanctuary to cover my mana, usually.

Judgement alone didnt help enough, but yes the problem could be related to my dodge rating since I turned Prot the other day and have to work on gear.

I take after 3.08 JoW is crap for prot and JoL is the way to go then?

JoW was buffed for prot in the last patch afaik. It went from 1% max mana to 2% base mana, didn't it? That's more mana return.

Your problem is fighting only 1-4 mobs. If that's all you're going to do stick to ret.

another thing with JoW, use a faster weapon, 1.8 should be your goal, lower is better, don't go any higher than 2.2 if you can help it, a fast weapon allows more chances of your JoW to proc for the extra mana.

if i remember right the first 70 paladins when BEs were first released all leveling prot with lifestealing and shit, so i'm guessing that's the fastest.

Lots has changed since BC was released...both prot and ret are faster at leveling. Honestly I'm not sure which is faster, I think it'd depend on where most of your quests are. If you're around heavy AOE packs, prot for sure, if it's kill a mob and run around and kill another, ret.

Judging Wis is Buffed for Prot since none of your gear has Int or Mana on it meaning the previous 1% is now 2% for you effectively.

The Sanc Proc is what you want in addition to Judging Wisdom which is affected by Dodge/Parry/Block rather unfortunately as I'm gearing up my own Pld i'm finding low HP pool to be my biggest problem rather than avoidance.

Just a question, you are keeping Holy Shield up 100% of the time right? +30% more block chance could mean you are missing out on alot of the Sanc Proc's if you are blocking 30% less

all in one, what you think to be the best PVE spec for a Paladin?
for "best" i mean the one optimizing the class resources, skills and concept to the best extent, giving you nice tools to play and tactics to use.
at first I thought that since Prot has more party utility, the best solo PVE one would be Retri but whenever I read about solo achievements there's a Protection spec involved.

Retri sometimes seems too much relying on crits proc so I was wondering if the most "brainy" spec woul din fact be Prot.

I'm biased but protection. Coming from FFXI and just from most other games I've played paladins were always shield users. I can't think of anything ret can do that protection cannot, but there are things protection can do that ret can not.

Holy is most powerful on its own against powerful opponents, like pve bosses etc. (I thought prot would be better now but after a whole lot of practice with both I'm just more "always safe" as holy). Prot is most powerful against groups of opponents, unless you need to heal, obviously. Ret is strongest solo against softer targets, i.e. other people/groups of just a couple mobs.

As far as groups/raids... I'm pretty confident in stating that prot paladins are the best tanks in the game atm.

It's also still clearly more difficult for a paladin to heal stuff in 5/10 mans. That's definitely made up for though, in the fact that as holy I can pop on my prot gear and still tank anything in game short of sarth+2-3d atm, albeit with low threat. It's also very easy to do things like taunting a boss and holding for a few seconds while a druid tank battle rezes (I've done it on an enraged Gluth as well as KT) while in full healing gear. Healers just have pretty much all the recovery methods, all a tank can do is try to last while the other people get their shit back together.

Both specs have their roles, holy I would say has the most overall group potential due to the fact that you're a much better tank as holy than you are healer as prot.

my main concern is like :
given the same efforts in terms of time/work on your toon, I have the feeling the Retri slowly falls behind the other 2 specs. getting enchants, gems and epic pieces didnt really improved my dps as i'd expected, while I met some purple Prot pallies who could really make quite a difference.
this doesnt mean Retri dps has major issues, but coming from FFXI it's really starting to feel i'm gearing my PUP to overdamage the MNK next door.

Let me tell you a story about a 25 man geared ret pally I ran into one time in a wsg.

He hit me really freaking hard, and I had to bubble. I got some distance, got full. He repentanced when I came out. I started spamming holy shock on myself to cover the incoming guaranteed crit judgement.

Right as he judged, a priest feared me.

I hit trinket (well, emfh) to break the fear.

I was dead before I could holy shock. The only thing that touched me other than the ret pally, to kill me in that 1 gcd, was the priest's fear.

If you really want to go ret, do it. High end geared ret pally is freaking amazing.

Oh, and meanwhile with my almost all blues/2-3 heroic epics ret set, I can... almost do as much dmg as I can when prot. lol

    Also, something everyone should know:

Every time a Paladin joins a group without pally power installed, kittens die. Lots and lots of kittens, every time.

I have terrible mana issues at times too, but ive found that using judgement of wisdom is more than enough with heals, and sanct procs to keep me at around a happy 50% manabar, if you are having issues use the mana regen skill (25% mana over 12? seconds) its a free replenishment on a 5-7min timer (iirc).
