Installed it yesterday and played around with it for a bit, this is what i noticed so far:

    * Exit game can corrupt autosave (crashed to desktop)
    * So far all but 1 time I quit the game it ended with an error/crash.'
    * My X800XL can run this shit just fine even tho its not minimum requirements stuff.

Granted I haven't exitted the vault 101 yet. The furthest I got was helping that ass his mother with radroaches but not knowing how to target properly and hitting the mom then having Butchy come at me with a knife so I had to knock him (which I didn't wanna do) so I just quit and will probably start over again tomorrow, lol.

Haven't picked it up yet due to having other stuff to play through first. However, I had tons of issues with Oblivion...so...it would not surprise me.

I crash very very rarely on the 360 (maybe once every 10-15 hours)

If you're getting crashing frequently during gameplay, *turn off the radio*. Seems like most of the current crashes on all platforms are audio-related (corrupt sound files are often claimed), and I've had maybe one or two since I stopped listening to GNR. I had around 10 with it on. Alt-tabbing doesn't seem to be good for the game's health either, although I haven't had it outright crash to desktop due to alt-tabbing. BethSoft games are always buggy and crashy, so I guess I'm kinda used to it. Edit: On the topic of codecs, those of you who are getting frequent crashes, do you have K-Lite Codec Pack or some shit like that installed? I just have CCCP and whatever Nero installs, and I only really crash with the radio on.

Issues caused by being under the minimum reqs don't really count for anything, since the game wasn't designed to run well on your system anyways.

I just have CCCP and I (as was suggested to me by someone on the Bethesda forums) added fallout3.exe to the ffdshow video/audio exclusion lists.
That helped for awhile, but then I ran into other problems.

Tried updating my sound card's drivers and that seemed to help for the most part, but I still crash when talking to Mister Burke. It's not immediate now, used to be that as soon as he started talking I would crash; Now I can go a bit of the way through the dialog and then crash.
Haven't had a chance to do much testing since I'm @ work right now but I did play around with it a little bit before coming in today.

I've got about 40 hours on the 360 version, and I have yet to run into any crashes, bugs or any other faulty gameplay issues, Been nothing but pure fun thus far.

The only crashing/hanging issues I've had with my PC during my 60+ hours of Fallout 3 play occur when attempting to Alt-Tab to the desktop without another application to actually Alt-Tab to, or when my CPU attempts to fiddle with frequencies and voltages as part of the auto-overclocking routine and just fucks up. (Games seem to have issues with this routine.)

I have encoutnered issues with sound in the game, including radio stations no longer playing until I save->reload (doesn't have to be a previous save, I can quick save when the problem occurs and then quick load to fix it), along with a very annoying and noisy feedback loop sound I get when speaking to a handful of NPCs when tuned into GNR. CCCP is the only codec pack I have installed on my computer, in addition to DivX, so I know I don't have any issues there.

FYI, Bethesda does have a patch available, 1.0.0.15 for US English versions only, that does fix some of the Alt-switching issues - though it hasn't 100% fixed the problem for me.

Charismatic, by the sounds of it you've got issues with your graphics and audio hardware and the game. Have you tried running with reduced graphical and audio settings to test for stability? Like try turning HDR off and turn down the lighting effects and disable EAX/hardware audio and see if that helps at all.

If it makes you feel any better, Oblivion is essentially unplayable for me on my current computer because my new mobo's onboard sound card renders all the Oblivion sounds like I'm inside a tin can in a bathtub. Footsteps and soundfx are nearly silent, while the music and voice tracks are nasty loud with this annoying reverb. It completely kills my experience since I'm a player who pays a lot of attention to game audio.

I've tried everything man, I turned off all effects and changed settings to low(also tried switching various settings to on while others were off, tried every possible combination of settings I could think of)... still crashed just as often.

Like I said though, I'll fool around with it a bit more when I get home since for the most part things seem to be working now... basically the only thing that's giving me trouble now is Mister Burke, the rest of the game seems to be working fine thus far (but I'm still very close to the beginning)

My game crashed every few minutes at first, then I did some changes suggested both from the official site and different forums. Now my game can run for several hours mostly.
I did a scandisk, run from the command prompt, I installed a new codec (which you wrote you already had) and I always turn off background programs - TeaTimer from S&D, my anti-virus guard and msn messenger.
I'm not sure which of the changes made the difference, but best bet is either the codec or TeaTimer.
    Graphic card NVIDIA geforce 9500s
