yeah i dont know if im doing that wrong or cant quite understand the directions.. i feel retarded. can you maybe give me more detailed instructions? like which spot on this new Xbox guide place to go to and what not? sorry for the inconvenience![]()
The reason some people have to save to HD is that you need to get POL to get a "You didn't shut down properly" message so it will cut off the auto-login most ppl have so they can reinstall FFXI since some of these xboxes don't recognize the POL viewer being saved on the HD.
ahh... i dont have auto log-in on mine so i dont get that error that it didnt shut down properly... seems im hosed until Microsoft fixes this![]()
SE did confirm the issue exists seem to be working on it.

However their fix won't work for all people due to the fact that if they can't start POL there is no way for them to reinstall.
Formatting your 360s HDD should work but then you would lose all your gamesaves and such.
Yup, ended up having to reformat my HD and that did it. Thanks for the help ~!
Some common feature is that some of us have sent our 360s for repair recently and recieved a referbished one.
Ive come into the problem of my 360 not reading the collections or the wotg cd's. Im not able to reinstall anything as I am not even able to get past the disk read error, on this game alone.
tho! I am able to play if I use my older cd (Rise/Treasures/Chains expansion) Problem is, no wotg ability.
I should have tried reinstalling POL from that disk before I completely unistalled the game from my 360 while using the same disk. But unfortunatly there wasnt enough info on this yet and it's been quite a few days since 360 update. Apparently these guys at POL arnt doing all that much for this problem for many 360 players. Biggest question is, Why does this effect some 360 players and not others?
Is available HD space a factor?
I did download POL from the 360 menu and put it on my HD. That took care of it untill i rebooted my xbox. So eventually, I ended up uninstalling the game from my 360. After a clean uninstall, the collectors edition cd worked. By this time I already returned 2 wotg expansion cds to gamestop, so I wasnt able to test much on them as either did not read when I did try them. (no i didnt keep the codes!)
So finaly after reinstalling collectors cd, everything works... again! But soon as I reboot... poof, cant read it.
Uninstalled everything again!!! Grrrrrr
Reinstalled the 3 expansion cd. Now currently installing the collectors cd since it didnt give me the option to just update tha damned thing on top of what I already had... This is gonna suck up some HD space. Especially when I wont have all that much to play with. Hell at this rate, I possibly wont have the room to take everything with the latest update that everyone just recieved.
This is getting more frustrating....
Format HD and loose all my save games? thats one screwed up choice to make to get something to work....
wow! They made this complicated. Imagine all those peeps out there who cant get the info they need (no pc) to at least attempt something that works.
Really nice update Microjunk! I was quite happy with the old dashboard. I could actually find stuff![]()
The problem lies in the new dashboard. It has a DRM system in that it will only allow game installs to be played on the 360 they were installed on. If you had a referb or replacement it is not the same Xbox and for DRM reasons MS doesn't want the game to work. Which is pretty dumb for a MMORPG. But any 360 game you install won't work if you install the game and try to play it on another Xbox. Seeing as you need the disc to play it I don't see their reasoning behind it.
That cant be the case here. Ive since uninstalled FF and reinstalled it with the same problem.
I found that a cause in this is simply the fact that I seldom back all the way out of FF, less im saving macros. I found that if you do this, since the update, it will stop you from getting back in. Sure there are other triggers but for the most part, I see that as my main problem. I tested this (not willingly) and found it to be true in my case.
Solution was: used an old FF cd to uninstall the game from the 360. Then reinstalled, then used the collectors cd to install wotg. Patched fully, backed all the way out without shutting down, then powered down my system to make sure it would come back up, and so far so good.
I see that you can also install POL directly to the HD, but me, like others, are limited to space.
Another way is, hook up your PC to your 36o and delete the FF file that way if you dont have an older version of FF. Get with the 360 site on the details if you dont already know.
Hope this helps!
Sounds like the OP got their issue resolved, but I wanted to note that I made no changes to my FFXI install on my 360, before the NXE Update.
I load the game via my Wings Expansion Disc, as I have heard the stock FFXI 360 disc is the culprit that does not load you to the PoL interface / screws you from an uninstall or reinstall.
I was wrong on identifying the source of the problem before. I should have gone with the first clues from the last time I had this problem.
After uninstalling (using an older disk) and reinstalling, I finaly got wings to work. Now once again, i'm screwed.
I noticed something odd both times this has happened. Each time, me and the wife log on around the same time. She gets an update on the lappy, i get a disk read error. Now tonight, same thing. She logs on to an update and i get a disk read error on my 360.
same thing is taking place to friends of mine. Seems to go down when you try to get in and an update is waiting for all but you!
Really wish they'd fix this. Spending more time on other games now.
also noticed just recently that it's taking FF a seriously long time to shut down. anyone else seeing this?
Or sometimes will not shut down at all, I have learned not to /shutdown anymore and just take the long way out if I just changed macros and want to make sure they save.
I had to reformat my harddrive and reinstall FFXI on my 2nd box.
1st one never had any problems.
if you get to the point where you can't even load POL, you have to reformat :/
I wonder if the other people experiencing this are using a refurbished 20 gig hd. That seemed to be my issue.
1) The xbox 360 didn't download the games that come with the arcade bit until I bought a new 60 gb drive, then it installed them as soon as I booted up (worthless crap, but possibly a sign of other problems)
2) POL takes 6.7 gig, and the install wants another 7 gig free space for FFXI, which means a 20 gig won't really cut it all that well with 1/3 of the space being reserved for the system (seriously, wtf is up with that?)
