I've been pulled over 3 times that I can remember and got out of all but one.
First one I was on one of my trips to WI from CA on leave. I get started driving in the morning of day 2 and a cop pulls me over. I don't think i was doing more than 75 in a 65. He asks the basics then notices my gold wings sticker (marine corps airborne). I tell him I'm on leave and I'm trying to make decent time to get home. He says he'll let me go on one condition...that I get out of my car (mind you it's freezing cold and I was hardly dressed for it [edit: to clarify, I was driving from SOCAL and I was somewhere in CO a day before new years eve and was still in shorts and a tshirt]) and sing the marine corps hymn with him (he was a retired marine). Got out of the ticket, but definitely one of the more interesting experiences I've encountered on the road.
2nd one I was on another CA to WI trip, just getting back on the road on day 2, but this time a rookie stopped me for doing 83 in a 65. I was working him to a warning...or so I thought. He gets called up for something else mid-stop, so he comes back to me and tells me I'll get the warning in the mail. He got my address off my liscense, which was my parents. My Dad calls me a week later to say I have a $270 ticket from AZ. Fucking rookies.
Most recent one I was in town driving my normal route back home from the tech, next to a newly built grade school. I was doing almost 40 since it was a huge downhill road along the entire fence-line of the school grounds. I got off with a warning because I told him I normally don't drive that part of town and didn't know the school was finished. I could have gotten a HUGE fine and/or suspension for that one. ~38 in a 25 school zone.
Did you tell him it wasn't you?
Be glad you don't live in Ohio then. I think we're the only state in the nation that still has the death penalty for speeding.
Thankfully only time I've ever been pulled over was for having a 2-day expired tag on my plates while I was on my way to work to get a check to get them renewed. Cop was nice enough to let me go on that, but still dinged me for seat belt. >.<
I've been pulled over 7 times in 4 different states, and only ever got 1 ticket.
The only ticket I ever got was written by an Ohio state trooper; I was doing 73 in a 55 near Waverly, going back to Bragg from my dad's place after I got home from Iraq. The ticket was pretty low, as I recall, but the roads were nearly empty and it was a clear day.
