Everything about 'they don't offer that' is all well and true, but the fact is that they don't advertise the truth is misleading. There was no false expectation. Sure, you and many people you know might know who eHarmony doesn't service but that doesn't mean everyone does.
It is a dating service, and he could have dated anyone the company was properly trained to match him with. Like I said earlier, despite the motto "have it your way", you can't order a whopper with a shaved lobster tail as a condiment. They don't offer that service.

To reuse a previous example, Burger King doesn't advertise "We don't serve Big Mac"...Kleenex doesn't advertise "We don't make toilet paper"...why is this different?

Shouldn't it be the consumers responsibility to learn what services a business offers before shopping for their services?

I didn't read the story, I assumed it was an out of court settlement...A judge actually ruled in favor of the gay guy?

More like a case of a few gays filing stupid lawsuits that have a negative effect on companies.

"The straight man", is definitely not affected by this. Only the company and the gays.

seriously, why the hell should a company change just because you can't find a guy on your own?

what's next? suing the company because they never found anyone for you?
    fuck faggots like this guy.
An interesting thing about these situations is that they let homophobes fly under the radar.

That's a bad example of switching "gay" with "black," it's not the issue at hand. They aren't discriminating on the basis of race. Even so, I have a problem with government trying to force private businesses to change their business model. Aren't there also gay dating sites that cater to gay members? I know there is a site that caters to married members looking for a little action on the side. In this case, eHarmony should be allowed to miss out on as much business as they choose.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a service that is heavily marketed towards evangelical Christians?

From my rudimentary understanding of their service, it is based on classical psychology and the differences between the sexes and years of research, which they used to make a process (which was patented) to determine compatibility between men and women based on their so-called "29 dimensions" you always see and hear in their ads on tv and radio.

Theoretically, could it work for homosexual members? Probably. But the original research was based on men and women.

Uh...a dating service and the right to marry are two totally different things. This is hardly imposing their lifestyle onto anyone else. This is simply a case of a guy filing a retarded lawsuit and that is it.

And you are right in only one point, gay people aren't special, they are just like everyone else. Funny part is no one ever wants to treat them that way. Anytime someone fights for gay rights it is always "oh look, they are cramming the homosexual agenda down our throats." The ignorance sickens me.

Anyways, as I think has been well stated, this lawsuit isn't about gay rights at all.

This is as retarded as the cunt who bitched about over-salted fries.

or the moron who spilt coffee and burned themselves. Not all fags are like this and I bet a lot of gay people hate dumbasses like this. Just like how everyone hates fatasses who bitch about oversalted fries. We shouldn't hate this guy because he's a gay bitcher, we should hate him because he's a retarded bitcher in general. Kinda like how everyone hates CuntQueen Ann Coulter?

also, there's a lot of straight married men lookin fer discreet buttsex on gay.com. it's hilarious. the more you know~~

What happened with the oversalted fries? I don't think I've heard of that one yet.

On the level of government gay people should have equal individual rights, which is why it is wrong in my opinion for the Boy Scouts to discriminate, for example. If they didn't use government funding and facilities then fine.

On the level of a private company or organization however, they have the right to conduct business however they like. I don't have to like it, approve of it, or use it, but it's not my business. Has anyone seen the founder guy in the commercials? He's like 80 years old, I doubt he'd know how to hook up two gay guys anyway.

This is the same kind of positive discrimination pushed by feminists and affirmative action proponents. You simply don't fight for individual rights, while in the process infringing on the rights of others. If it is good and right to hold minorities on equal legal status (which I think it is) you don't do that by forcing other people into doing what you like, or getting juicy perks non-minorities don't. In doing so they only foster more resentment.

Edit: Oh fuck it, I'm deleting what I wrote before, it didn't make any sense. I can really see both sides of the issue, and I don't feel that one is more right than the other. On the one hand, e-harmony is discriminating, but they're doing it for a valid business reason. Does that make it okay? This is where I get stuck, I don't know. I think they have the right to have a dating site that runs how they want it, but I also think it's pretty shitty not to at least allow gays and straights alike to use it. How hard would it be to add one more check box that says "male seeking male" and one for "female seeking female?"

I guess in the end I feel that what they are doing is wrong, but that it's legal, and I disagree wholeheartedly with this judge's decision.

For the record, this is not the same fucking thing as Kleenex not selling toilet paper. Dating is dating whether you're gay or straight, but wiping your ass and blowing your nose are two entirely different things (unless you're talking about that one episode of South Park). I see the point people are trying to make with that analogy but the analogy itself fails pretty hard.

The difference is in how the system finds matches. Eharmony (supposedly) have a system in place that's based off of extensive research of hetero couples. This supposed research may not necessarily apply to gay couples as well, so in theory, it may not be as easy as making an extra box to check and pairing people who clicked the same box.
