Obviously they have the means to make a gay dating website, since they're making a fucking gay dating website. Arguing that they don't have the technology or the know-how is hilarious.

also black guy goes to coffee shop and finds out they don't offer coffee service to black guys even though it says "coffee shop" out front

All of his examples are fucking retarded obviously because they aren't discriminating against a person because of a legally protected characteristic.

As people have said, most of these sites use some type of proprietary system for matchmaking that deals with a wealth of research. As you see, they aren't implementing the system until well into 2009, which means they didn't have the know-how or information relevant to provide he guy adequate service at the time of his membership (which was back a couple of years ago iirc from the story). I'm sure they are using these next few months to attempt to put reseach into matching homosexual couples to provide service they deem sufficient. Just throwing a gay check mark in would be suicide for a business model.

Aren't all those things like first month free or free to sign up but if you want special bonus features you pay? The guy was trying to nab money, plan and simple.

Yes, it would be suicide because it would acknowledge that the basic premise of "matching on 29 dimensions of your personality" of their extremely overpriced website is a load of fucking bullshit and they use the same goddamn question/answer metrics that all matching sites use.

Whether it's bullshit or not isn't the point. I've never used a dating sevice to know if it's bullshit or not. None-the-less, matching gay couples and hetero couples would certainly require a different system, or at least, warrant some kind of additional research that they didn't have at the time.

No, they're pointing out a fallacy in his argument. If they were discriminating against him because he was gay that would be one thing. If he's just suing because they don't have the means to offer him gay matchmaking (which they clearly don't, no matter what their organization believes) then it isn't false advertisement or discrimination.

Plenty of dating websites that don't discriminate use the same matching metrics regardless of gender, and all that it took for them is adding a checkbox.

Also, everyone is crying for the demise of eHarmony because they...planned to be discriminatory from the start?

Why feel sympathy for them because of their poor planning? It's not like homosexuals just arrived on the scene 5 years ago, or they just learned how to use computers yesterday.

The right to sue people for any and all reasons is clearly not just a gay right, but a right of all Americans.

    1) I didn't know that, that's what I get for not reading the article.

    2) I don't see what's wrong with a website forcing straight men to have gay sex >_>

What would be fun, next, is if a specifically straight, Christian dating site added a "men seeking men/women seeking women" option, and then if you checked it you were sent directly to a page that said "I'm sorry, this website is for Christians only."

    I'd lol, anyway.

You don't think that a completely private company has a right to discriminate if they choose?

Sure they do, just not on the basis of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, ethnicity, and probably a few other things I'm forgetting.

They can discriminate based on anything else - and it's not my opinion, it's the way that, ya know, the laws work.

This lawsuit is frivolous and should have been thrown out. As stated previously, their are plenty of other gay dating sites that he could have gone too. If he found out that they didn't have a gay database for him to search through just ask for your money back and go to the other site. Some people are just fucktards that want free money.

A completely private company or group should be allowed to do whatever they'd like to do and keep out whoever they want to keep out.
