This is rarely the case in the conditions we are talking about. It's usually:
1. 10 minutes pass before the wave shows up.
2. A lot of people and/or NPCs there, so the mobs die in 3-5 minutes. (xp for 15 minutes worth of time isn't bad)
3. People stand around for another 15 minutes, wondering if another wave is coming, or if someone is soloing a mob 40 miles away.
That last part is the stickler. Waiting around, perhaps turning in tags, thinking that another wave is on the way. And not everyone can cap their xp in this time, so they lose xp while waiting, thinking another wave is coming.
So yes, I'll search for a RNG or BST nearby, ask them to widescan and find it, then go out there. And shout the name of the moron soloing the mob. If the name gets repeated enough, people will start to remember that name, and associate it with an asshole.
What I also hate: People that run far away from the fort and engage the entire group of mobs. I've seen this a few times, where the wave, including NM, never even made it to the fort. So a lot of people got 0, as they got tags and waited... and waited...
In conclusion, wait by the damn fort. You can pick up one mob just outside of NPC range to fight, if you want. But don't drag it miles away. It's a damn selfish thing that affects others negatively. In a community based game where rep does mean something.
I've had fun watching one asshole shout in whitegate for days on end, for Nyzul and assault groups. Never got anyone to join him, because he got a rep as an asshole. At the very least, being an idiot decreases your options for doing things, joining particular LS's, and reduces the pool of people who might otherwise help you.
If people want to be lazy and stand half afk at the fort waiting for the mobs to come to them, they deserve getting 0 for not bothering to go and find out where the mobs went.
Its fairly obvious what happened when it announces they're coming, and then they never come. Pull your thumb out of your ass and go to them.
Picking off mobs near the fort means incoming waves will attack you. Also, why should I allow a pack of players pick at the mob I'm fighting when they won't even cure me. If you're not going to carry your own weight by means other than hitting the mob, I don't see any reason I shouldn't solo the mob far away since that's essentially what I'm doing anyways.
You know, some people would also like to take control of the zones along with getting XP and maybe someday get to the Ops fights in the beastmen strongholds. People who drag out the length of campaign fights are not those people.
If its not too far, it doesn't matter. As long as its within range...
My only issue with campaign is the multitudes of PLDs that like to pile onto my mob that I'm tanking when there are 5+ hitting the fortifications. I had a JP PLD hitting my mob then switch targets after I engaged a fresh new mob. I ended up tanking both mobs. Even NAs are like that.
Most of the PLDs on my server that got to 75 AFTER Aht Urghan came out are no where as competent as those who got to 75 in the old zones.
Can't solo mobs? What the fuck is this shit? lol. Any blue or red mage can solo most campaign mobs without breaking a sweat.
