Basically, somehow, (I am assuming it somehow snagged a cord from the power supply or something) a tooth on one of our computers shot off the fan that is screwed directly onto the heat sink for the processor.
Its an old single-processor cumputer, using an AGP graphics card. We didn't wanna deal with driving 50+ miles to have a CHANCE at finding a new fan for the heat sink, so instead I pulled out a new one I had when I'd bought the wrong size for my main comp.
I screwed the fan which is 20% smaller directly into the grooves of the heat sink, it is somehow very secure, and won't move much even if slapped, tapped, or pushed. I worry that there could be side effects of the screws in the heat sink, or side effects of the fan being 20% smaller (it is an "xboxhueg" heat sink on this thing though). And yes I made sure to point the fan the right way.
<_< Opinions? I personally figure it should function fine as a spare tire will we get a new fan/sink in a month or two, but would very much like to be called an idiot if it turns out I'm doing a dumb thing.
