I'm surprised the full video hasnt been posted yet.
Isn't quite the opposite on display here, how whether or not there is a live broadcasting video stream of someone in dire need of medical attention, your average internet nerd is just going to watch there and do nothing, because golly it's just too embarrassing to fall for the potential prank of someone seeking attention? In a striking display of the power of live video
Power of live video, indeed.
Not to mention that there are serious consequences to calling in false 911 or emergency services reports in most jurisdictions. I seem to recall a women in Quebec who was effectively harassing 911 operators by calling in something crazy like 500 times within a two week period. I think the local municipality sued her for all the time and resources it cost to answer those calls or something.
I'm pretty damn sceptical about stuff online and generally choose to believe that everything on the Internet is false until proved true unless it's coming from a very reliable source (Reuters, JSTOR, academic sites, etc.). For the Internet-savvy, including the legions of trolls and /b/tards this is also true and falling for a hoax is the blackest mark of being a nub - when your e-peen is on the line you can't take risks.
I need to study the concept of internet ego or "e-peen"; it seems surprisingly similar to the way that the masculine gender conserves itself, not only that, they even use a term that alludes to it, that is, e-peen.
People can live just fine at a lower standard of living then they have now, and we'd see a good deal less dead children and such if we did.
That's not the problem. Humanity wants the best, and that's a survival instinct. Poor countries can't get that. Morally, anyway.

Make someone feel they're "have not" enough, and they'll do anything to get to "have", if it's possible- including abusing, killing, exploiting, and rendering others incapable of any decent life if it means they get there. And justify it as "getting what they deserve". Simply by existing and living a peaceful, civilized life, we inspire others to do anything they can to gain the comforts we're used to daily. And since the only way to get them is by stripping others of life, liberty, and property? The status quo in Africa.
You're confusing ambition and survival instinct.Humanity wants the best, and that's a survival instinct.
It's a complete form of machoism. The interesting thing about the OP case is that the guy in question was on a bodybuilding forum. I'm not going to go out and say that every single person on that board, or our recently deceased, was a cake-eating roid-monkey, but guys who are really into getting seriously stacked have got some body image issues. Their need to be hyper-masculine often covers up for some latent inadequecies in other parts of their lives, which can often lead to serious depression.
The combination of a possibly depressed and self-loathing individual who's brain may be getting even more out of wack from overuse of anabolic steroids, and an audience of (virtually) misanthropic internet trolls who have their own macho reputation to protect, just creates a perfect cocktail for suicide on the rocks with a chaser of shame and lulz.
I feel nothing for him, barring absurd chemical imbalance, he's either a bitch for giving up, or an idiot for letting himself get egged into it.

I feel disgusting for wanting to laugh at the red-circle'd bit. :/
I think that the line between skepticism and tuffguy is easily crossed. It was pretty rapidly crossed in this case, as a full hour after someone made a reasonable case that he might actually be dead, the mods were banning people for calling them out on their stupidity.
What's really on display here is nothing new. The internet has empowered people to Not Care. It's the truth of the world that you do Not Care about 99.9% of the people of the world, by virtue of the fact that you haven't met them personally. Connect yourself to a million people on the internet and the situation does not change; people still won't give a shit, but now they have the new advantage of Not Caring in public and guilt-free voyeurism of human suffering while they do it.
The Internet Does Not Care.
Unless you post spider pictures, then it's a chorus of 'FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK SPIDERS BANNNNNNNNN BAN BAN BAN BAN'
Apparently it just means free will. I'm not sure why he said the same thing in two languages in the same sentence, but maybe using .es gives it a different connotation.
As for what he was actually saying, I'd say the current attitude toward mental disorders is actually a result of our attatchment to the concept of free will. We aren't "tacitly accepting" the existence of mental disorders and acquiescing to them, we're identifying a verifiable problem and facing it head-on, with a proliferation of diagnoses and medications. Seen in that way, we're actually defending the sanctity of free will from the percieved possibility that our freedom might be taken away by the bad chemicals. The resulting corporate profits are seen as a necessary side effect.
edit: I know how to use tags, really.
But if *everyone* didn't care, we wouldn't have Elphaba on page 1 going "Shame on you, internets!". And if, as you say, there's no reason for the internet to care, then it wouldn't even make sense for him to say that. And as you can see, someone did eventually call the cops, so there's at least one person (in the sample group in question) who at least sort of cares. Personally, I think any realistic model of the internet would involve at least some people who sort of care, although not necessarily the same individuals every time. And as far as I can tell, sort of caring about random strangers is just plenty. Not caring at all would probably be bad (although not necessarily "shame on you!" bad), and really caring about everyone in the world would be infeasable for numerous reasons.
I see what you're saying, but my point is that the internet doesn't really, genuinely connect people. It's a window into someone else's life and unless you were already the kind of person who cared about strangers, that connection will never evolve past that window and given the opportunity, the empirical evidence is overwhelmingly in the 'don't give a shit, do nothing, watch, be amused' side of the scale.
Indeed, so many things go on in real life next to people and they do nothing about it, why should the internet be any difference? I know this is a poor example lol, but I was watching Jackass the show the other night, and it was a skit where he had a fake baby in a carrier, and he purposely put it on top of his car and began to drive away. So many people looked, but no one did anything about except one or two people after it already began to drive away.
I will meet u ne tiem I am hoem an u will c i am teh saem.
Also, I will say that I could care less about this and I really don't feel anything or think twice about it at a later point. I wouldn't think twice when I tell someone to kill themselves and I wouldn't really care online, even if I thought someone would probably do it.
That said some of you do and whatever lol. You can say everyone is desensitized to violence if you'd like to, but is that bad or good, or does it have both effects? In 1944 young Americans thought WWII would be a great adventure - they didn't understand what war really was, both the violence and effects nor the reasoning and policy behind it.
Today, everyone has more information than they could possibly read, and with that came content like violence. Kids nowadays don't get beat up for being a nerd or for being poor (ostracized, yes) or other petty reasons, kids don't see the military as some fucking adventure where you come back all changed and manly. And if they do think that, they don't by the time they've got a year in.
I think the fact that there are less heroic people in hectic situations has something to do with this too, but I can't really tie it in - just a theory. I thought of it because of school shootings, but for many of those the shooters reload with people being little bitches in front of them instead of just being a man. (Not meaning selfless or heroic or 'making a sacrifice', I mean being a man like, not letting yourself be oppressed, which is what is happening.)
Also, lolsuicide.
