Income is largely irrelevant without knowing where you live and the CoL for that area. I think I seen a stat that $200,000 in Chicago would have about half the purchasing power in New York. I remember a guy in my LS paying over a thousand dollars for a crappy apartment in New York, and I pay a mortgage significantly less than that for a large 3 bedroom house (albeit, I live in the middle of no where, I think our median income is less than $40,000 a year for an entire family).

My uncle falls into that category also, he has a decent sized home in Upstate NY and payed almost three times what we payed for our house in Charlotte. We used to visit him every so often and it was like..."wow, you pay how much for this?".

When I lived in St. Louis we used to ride through Kentucky all the time. Where you live certainly plays a HUGE roll in what you can easily own/afford in regards to how much you make yearly.
