    Gurfurlur the Menacing

Quick question on tanking this guy, several threads say PLD does great on him but what sub? Other kings hit like trucks and /nin is a must, but being a mnk seems like he might hit to fast to make that work. Anyone that has tanked him that can share would be much appreciated.

I'm not a PLD myself, but...

The last time we did this NM our PLDs were both /NIN if I remember correctly. Toward the end of the fight they ended up losing a lot of hate which made the fight really messy (granted this was in part because we didn't have enough SAM/THF to be tricking some hate onto them through the duration of the fight, everyone was busy with the adds). His worst moves (Head Snatch, Pleiades' Ray) aren't stopped by shadows anyway. I don't know for sure, but those were the downfalls of /NIN that I noticed. I vaguely remember them saying /WAR for next time would be better, but maybe my memory is just being influenced by the topic itself.

Fight was a joke with two PLD/WAR. Head Snatch is the only scary move /WAR, though a good dmg reduciton set can help lower that alot. I just had jelly ring which helped but my co-tank had haute/dring/jelly/v.helm.

/nin does ok but it's pretty much a pain in the ass and not worth it imo to try to keep shadows up on a Monk.

It's a bit harder to hold hate /NIN on him imo since you have to try so hard to keep shadows up as well. I've tanked it both ways and definately liked /WAr better. You could probably even try /RDM or DRK if you wanted for crazy hate.

Ok thank you very much! A follow up question if you don't mind... Reprisal heal him? If so how much, just wondering if that will be a significant factor in dot.

We do pld/rdm on him now, and hes pretty much a joke like that. And reprisal does heal him, but it also makes it easier for you to survive stuff like Hundred Fists.

Its funny watching him do Hundred fists, the pld sent and reprisal, then cast stoneskin while hes swinging, and the pld take 0 damage the entire 2 hour.

as Asdrabael said, we use PLD/RDM x2, but you can also use PLD/NIN+PLD/RDM tanks. That helps alleviate some of the stress from the PLD/RDM tank who will probably do the majority of the tanking. Head Snatch does suck, but it's nothing you can't manage with good healers and quick reaction.

I went PLD/BLU and was perpetually Phallanx II'd. No problems, no worries. Easiest of the three fights. Could tank all of the helpers and him if the rngs were in melee mode.
